As engrfcuksmtin Nigerian nurses are caring, hot n sweet. Infact there was a spectacular experience I had with the nurse that circumcised my son who confessed that it was the size of my son's thing that made her to be interested in me. |

@ garaluxxy054,all you have to ask for is the nurse's practising license. A registered nurse will always have her license with her. Please never patronise ndi nurse Eliza and their hospital because they practice quackery. So please, they are not nurses. Registered nurses are trained to be compassionate with their professional ethics guiding them. 1 Like |

@ rooneyboy,i am a registered nigerian nurse and am proud of that. Most people here are talking based on assumption or hearsay. Nurses may not be angels, but they are the next best thing. Nurses are in the business of caring, that's our bottom line! |

Re: Your Experience In The Hands Of Nigerian Nurses by heykims(m): 1:42pm On Jan 19, 2013 |
Rudeness nd uncaring attitude unfortunately is ironically almost pathognomonic to nigerian nursing system. Why? Instead of facing their work, they go abt envying nd attempting to compete wt medical doctors, an exercise in futility... |

There are two situations here. If the situation is that the job is not properly done for example injections being administered wrongly, then it might be that the said nurse is an auxiliary nurse doing the job of a nurse or a registered nurse that is not properly trained or just a bad registered nurse. If the situation is abuse of patients whether through words or physically, it does not matter if it is a nurse, an auxiliary or whatever name you want to call it. The is no excuse to abuse or shout at a patient. I would like to point out though that we should not paint our Nigerian nurses black as most Nigerians are like that. Most of us lack good communication skills. We talk to people rudely and without care. We like to shout at people. We lack good customer service in dealing with people. We treat the poor in a different way to the way we treat the rich. This is a systemic situation and our nurses and workers just reflect our way of living with people while they carry out their duties. For change to happen, we all have to change. We have to start by talking calmly to the next person. 3 Likes |

@op, don't generalize. Yes, few nurses these days are caring, unlike in those days when they were many caring nurses in the field. I used to remember a tall, dark and beautiful nurse that i had a crush on when i was little. Her injection time was the best , u'll hardly feel the pain and even ask her whether she's thru. injecting u. These days most of 'em almost give u a heart attack while injecting u, and are saucy. 1 Like |

@poster, they are called medecine technicians and artisans. about two years ago in a private clinic one was to give injection with her quarter-To-Eyes as she carried the injection looking and moving towards me i looked at her eyes and it was as if she was pointing it towards my backbone to insert it so i ran and was later convinced to come back and when she eventually inserted it into my bombom she kept pushing it out of annoyance until it met the bone gbummmm as if that was not enough she then held it firm and use it to scratch the bone cra cra cra, i screammed cos she almost crippled me. i cant keep my bombom to be made a cripple at dis age again o. everything in Nigeria looks like nigeria;Nigeria pastors, doctors, leaders, politicians, engineers, lecturers, police etc are bad. Most people criticising nurses here are not better either,so lets accept our faults and move this nation 4ward. they are show casing the bad behaviour of a typical Nigeria which have painted us black in the eyes of the whole world. Our culture lack shame, our culture is not civil,it also illogical. What the poster is complaining about is just a tip of an ice berg,i work in a hospital i know what i'm saying. We need to rebrand attitude.we need to rewrite our culture, norms and beliefs.a country where a criminal is adored and seen as smart while hard working people are known as ''mumu''.may God almighty have mercy on us! Eliminating corruption in Nigeria means annihilating 90 percent of nigerians.but we can achieve something,we can make it if we try. 2 Likes |

Lagusta: Sad to say, a lot of nigerian nurses are bad, whether they are auxiliary nurses, Registered Nurses or have a bachelor's degree..... I don't comment on nairaland buh I must on this particular issue. Lagusta, why will you shout on them in the first place. This is what doctors have failed to realize that nurses don't play second fiddle to doctors. I bet the setting you are referring to is a private one. The care of a patient is centered. I mean everyone is there to assist the patient back to health(doctors, nurses, pharmacists, nutritionist and other professional health care providers). Based on the topic, your person reflects in your job which is not ascribed to the profession you belong. I stand to correct this statement that not all Nigerian nurses are bad. I am a proud nurse and I carry out my responsibilities diligently. In this write-up, I'm not referring to the quack and unprofessional ones. My take 7 Likes |

Most ladies who call themselves nurses in nigeria are usually 'CHEWs': community health workers....they attended schools of health technology. But since they are cheap, most if not all private hospitals employ them as nurses(those are the hospitals who are not even employing locally trained quacks). As usual, nothing is regulated in nigeria...the hospitals get away with it, and the chews and quacks employed also call themselves( & are known as) nurses everywhere they go; and they continue to disgrace the professional nurses and the noble profession itself. Just as someone said, when you see a professional nurse who attended a nursing school, you don't need to be told. They are usually beautiful, look clean, respectful & professional. I'm talking from experience. This is nigeria where anything goes, shine your eyes & make sure a nurse is treating you. #nuffSaid 1 Like |

[quote author=chiover] maybe ur bombom was too hard and rigid for d niddle. Let truth be told, nigerian public workers(both those in private firms) lacks manners. I doubt if it is restricted to the nurses alone cox I'v witnessed an outburst btw a doc and his patient bfor and coul u belv dat d doc was at fault but refused to tender an apology to the man as for i dont really tink that i do care about their manners provided am ok |

Nurse? Wow! Although d profession is oηε that should only be practiced by the extremely meek, caring and patient folks, the reverse is d case today. Very few of them shld actually wear the White. Haw do you explain a nurse roughly handling d cleaning of a wounded leg, wen d patient responded with shouts and cries, she told him that dis pain is too small compared to what men put women tru in d labor room. My guy went weak. Thank God , i'v bin blessed with divine health and dnt have to abode those bunch. |
