heykims: na ignorance wan kill u dude. What else do u expect wen u dont patronize specialists.
Now listen, as far as u dont live ds country, a white man medical practitioner is no alternative....

gsalvatore: I hate nurses cos they are wicked - in fact they can't help not being wicked, arrogant, suicidal and nutty sometimes. I mean these/some nurses were once nice babes till they got their white gown, that cardboard they wear as "Crown" and license to practice and they eventually turn into what they are not suppose to.
Go to FMC owerri and see were nurses bring arrogance to life, see how they talk to the patients relatives, if you go to them to inquire whats happening to you friend or whoever that is the patient there, you need to see the kind long face dem go wear.
I can remember in those days I was in the Uni, my mannest man got hit and was rushed to FMC owerri, the nurses see packaging na, anyi ana chikwa nu for that year( you do anyhow, you see anyhow).
Last year I met these nice kaduna gurl and she was in her(nursing) finals,I was like asking her "why are nurses arrogant and wicked and very soon when she gets her lisence she will join them" she said something like its part of the training, it has to do with empathy-whatever that means, if you pet the patients they will not like to get better quickly so they pretend to act as if they don't give 2shits. Well,I don't believe that mumbo jumbo cos I kno what arrogance and sheer stupidy looks like.

Funny thing is that my sister is graduating outta university as a Nurse this year...I told her earlier on that very soon she will turn to a Badass nurse and when she turns I will start giving her some space-we aint gonna be buddies again. She said she aint gonna change but we will see.
About nurses being promiscuous, that's a generalization but a little Truth dey there..I remember some years back I went to this Hospital in Aba (Ezuma hospital) for okigwe road make I see my buddie that was admitted there, O Boy! See nurses wey fine with their see through white outfit, nice perfumes, ceremonial curves, like say beauty na criteria for recruiting them. I later found out that my friend no wan get well again and I started visiting my friend regularly as a 'Loyal' friend wey I be. Anyi na aru ife nile(we multitask)

I disagree with you in the case of a Nurse giving you information about a relative or friend. That is breech of confidentiality. Legally, its completely wrong..It's not in the hands of a nurse to give information about a clients care or progress. This information can be obtained from the primary physician and it can only be given to the next of kin or guardian except in cases of emergency where the Doc makes such decisions for the client.
Somethings the public expects nurses to do is actually not in their scope of practice.

Why are people always trying to pass of these lies as truths? Nigerian people aren't generally rude, Nigerian people may be assertive and confident but they are also thoughtful and often the politest Africans you will meet. I haven't had a recent experience in Nigeria of Nigerian nurses but here in the UK, Africans hiding under the the Nigerian coverall can be very rude. In public transport, the African children who say sorry, if they impede on you,are invariably of Nigerian decent if you ask them where they come from. African children from other Nations can be very bush and uncouth. Nurses in Hospitals in England can be rude and uncaring sometimes. The rude once,if they are of African decent, are very rarely Nigerians.Unfortunately, people don't ask they just assume and casually interchange the term Africans and Nigerian.

OmolodMilkman93: in private hospitals do dey work leg to leg?
private hospitals usually parade auxillary nurses, nd since most re established by medical docs, even employed registered nurses have to succumb to d order of their employers....

This reminds of my ND days at Fedpol Ede, there was this bully of a nurse. I have heard of her rudeness from my colleagues before, but lucky I don't fall sick often. As fate will have it, the school mgt subjected all students to medical examination that involved taking blood samples. Unfortunately I was directed to notorious nurse. As she inserted d string into my arm drawing blood she was talking at the same time her colleague in the lab, I was forced to asked her if blood is needed for other purpose since she wanted to filled the entire syringe. She lambasted me like no tomorrow claiming that I called her a witch (of which I did)

Readers discretion is advised please.

My mum had partial stroke and was admitted to LUTH. I was surprised by the display of high level of professionalism by one of the nurses. It happened that my mum was in serious pains and swollen tummy. The doctors couldn't really figure out the cause of the swollen tummy after several tests. One day one of the nurses noticed hard feaces coming out of her anus while taking care of her. She immediately called the attention of the doctor to it. It was the observation of the nurse that explained the the reason for the swolen tummy and excruciating pains. My mum has not been passing out faeces for up to two weeks or so, though she has been eating. I was with the nurse the day to evacuate the faeces. I was the one holding down my mum because the pain was too much for her and was really struggling with the nurse. The nurse was able to evacuate all the faeces after about an hour. My mum was greatly relieved after the evacuation. The swollen tummy dissapeared after few days. It was like a miracle. Because of the pains, she couldn't sleep for days without shouting in the night, but she slept well after the evacuation. All other patients in the ward testified to it the following day that she slept very well without the usual shouting. My mum was discharge about a month later to continue her treatment as an outpatient.

I was really impressed by the actions of this nurse in the way she took care of my mum and can conclude that some kind hearted people are still in this country. No matter the situation they will give their best in whatever they do. They may be few but they definitely exist. That's my experience in the hand of a nigerian nurse and it is a good and a memorable one. I can never forget this experience in my life though I may not recall the name of the nurse. If all of us can emulate this woman. This country will be a better place for us all.

Well there are still some good nurses who actually know the ethics of nursing cos I have met the good ones.I had such experience in secondary school.I was ill and was referred to the school sick bay(dats wat we called it then)there was this nurse who was always aggressive.and whenever a sick student behaves like she doesn't have stamina,we get to receive rain of yoruba abuses.I summoned the guts to ask her why she talks dat way to the sick, and her response was dat we students had a disgusting attitude to our wellbeing when sick,so she shouts at us so we cud fight the illness emotionally and bcome strong.hmmmmm,I wonder if such ethic exist in the nursing dictionary.trust dat I was positively eager to get well and leave the. Sick bay.

Lagusta: Sad to say, a lot of nigerian nurses are bad, whether they are auxiliary nurses, Registered Nurses or have a bachelor's degree....

Its very sad, cos nurses supposed to be the closest to patients, we doctors prescribe drugs and gon but nurses are always in the ward....

But I don't blame them, its WE doctors that spark at them for any little mistake, so they transfer the anger to patients...

So please don't put the blame on them
No be only u doctors dat spark at dem. U only talk rudely to nurses who dnt knw wat they shld knw.Cos if u try sh*t wit me,i go run down ur lab coat. Talking abt nigerian nurses, not every nurse act d way u think. It happens in oda professions too, der's always d gud,d bad n d ugly. Shekina! Some patients r a bunch of temptation

Iam also a student nurse from unimaid, and to be sincere a lot of nurses have bad characters and temparament, then before I got admission,I hate nurses cos of their harshness and I tot is part of the profession.bt now I knw better,d tempdrament nd harshnes all defy the ethics and xteristics of a good and professional nurse, that's d main reason we take courses in sociology-human behaviour nd environment and also psychology, all dis courses are taught so the nurse wl knw dat pple are diffrnt, comes frm diff envirnment, have diff cultures/beliefs,have diffrnt perceptions,hv diff coping abilities and problems,so care nd concern + logical reasonin can be used in attainin to patients wtout being harsh nd rash.abusive words are unprofessional and deserves punishment.

Once i was in the waiting room of a hospital i went to see a friend in and all of a sudden a heavy row ensued between a man and a nurse. The reason, the nurse was giving the man injection on his buttocks and in fear the man fart on her face and the angry nurse slapped his naked buttocks and the quarel started. I doubt the people referred to hear are professional nurses. Its even harder to believe a school will use a professional nurse at their sick bay. How Much do they pay thém? She will just run down their school. I know of a nurse who earns #500,000 per month at national health centre here.
Then again....its not the job of a nurse to draw blood from patients. Those are definitely lab scientists who studied microbiology and the likés. You guys should stop calling everyone you see with needle nurses. Naija hospitals improvise nurses like anything.(why? I think probably cos it has employment opportunities everywhere...so they can be very expensive to employ. Nurses mouth are too wide) I overheard some people also calling these people who give immunization nurses. Lol smh. Naija people sha

Prettychyna: am sure the hospital you went to is one of these private hospitals that use auxillaries/quack nurses. No professional nurse will behave like that.so for your own good, next time you go to that hospital, demand to see a real nurse not nurse Eliza.you have the right to know the qualification of the person attending to you,am sure if you meet a real nurse, you will see the difference.anybody that pass through school will appreciate the profession and will act professional not the illiterates some doctors train in other to maximize profit.
U talk as dough u knw so much in this field, tell me...wat's ur experience

Queen xstar: In every profession, there're pros nd cons. Nursing nd medicine're different professions. There're ethics governing nursin profession, nd auxilary nurses dat are trained by doctors do't kno abt dat. In as much, some schooled nurses do't do well, there're very good ones nd I pray u'll meet them someday. Thks nd I sympathize.
