Is it advisable for babies under six months to take water?

I'm not yet a mother, but I'd imagine the answer is yes. Very clean water.
Let's hear from the mothers though. Where are you all?

In moderation small sips, not a bottle. Remember water holds "weight" in a baby tummy therefore the baby gets full quicker. Water has empty nutrients. So the baby wiil not be getting enough nutrients that he'll get from formula. Stick mainly with formula and breast milk they are made of water anyway, so the baby is still getting water but with necessary nutrients.

Giving water is not necessary during the first six months of life.
Breast milk is enough, it has all the necessary ingredients
in the right proportions including water.

yes... everyone needs water especially babies. at least 1ounce of water a day. you will be glad you did. I introduced water drinking to my kids at 2days old and they love drinking water til now. it's very healthy and helps their bowel movement as well.
Gerber baby water is ideal if you are in yankee but if in nigeria. boil and strain before feeding
cheers

Doctors always advice mothers NOT to give water to babies less than 6months because apart from the fact that the water contains germs, water is devoid of the necessary nutrients a growing neonate needs....

If you boil water, but you don't sterilize the baby cups and spoons, the boiled water becomes contaminated again... Even after washing hands, touching this or that will still cause some form of contamination...

Bosom milk is ideal for babies because it is direct from the mother to the child, so no risk of contamination!!!

Moreover, 90% of bosom milk is water, and the first sips a baby gets is kinda watery to quench thirsts...

Babies need bre4st milk, not water undecided
Re: Water For Babies Below Six Months by Nobody: 7:37am On Feb 18, 2013
Because the baby's stomach is so small, it is not advisable to give water. usually brea...st milk is it. this is because giving your baby water would cause them to feel full even though they havent gotten their required nutrient. water is only advised for babies in very hot climes.

Babies have zero need for water but I know it's common in Naija and that is the way we were brought up.

Yes it is advisable although some mothers stick to just brea.st milk

bottled water is not advisable

This op is very correect, the first few sips from d breast is water, folowed by nutrients, which is why doctors advise not to change brests in btw feeds, let d baby drink all he wants from d left bresst,d next feeding time d right brestt can be given,d only time its advisabl to give water is wen the baby is no longer being fed exclusively on breastmillk
