nokia3310: Some Christians are indeed Hippocrates, so just because the Emir survived the attack, you are now saying it was staged. What about the other ten people that died in the attack (majority of whom might likely be Muslims) are they less human than the christain worshipers of say Madala bomb blast. Why do some of you guys want the emir dead when we were all here last month condemning those celebrating Yakowa's death. Religion is a madness indeed, and you Christians are not very different from your Muslim Cousins for you're all birds of a feather. When something like this happen i expected people to remove sentiments from their minds for we are humans before being religious.

Unknown gunmen on Saturday threw an Improvised Explosive Device at the convoy of the Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, and then shot at his official vehicle, killing his driver and three of his guards on Saturday morning.

The attack took place near the Hockey Field on Zoo Road by Total Gasoline station when the Emir was returning from the inauguration of an Islamic school at Mussalaci Murtala.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Emir was unhurt in the attack and was moved to an undisclosed location.

Some residents in the area said men of the Joint Task Force later got to the scene of the attack and shot sporadically.

JTF spokesperson in Kano, Captain Ikedichi Iweha, said he was still trying to get the full details of the attack for him to release an official incident report.

However, Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, confirmed that four people died during the attack.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers in Oyo State, Mr. Kamorudeen Beyioku, died on Saturday while receiving treatment at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

Beyioku was shot earlier in the week by unknown gunmen.

The emir is revered in Nigeria - he met President Goodluck Jonathan after bombs in Kano a year ago.

Nigeria gunmen have attacked the convoy of the prominent religious leader, the Emir of Kano.

The emir survived, but his driver and two guards were killed.

No-one has admitted the attack, but suspicion is bound to fall on the militant group Boko Haram, which has previously killed Muslim clerics.

The emir is highly revered by Muslims and the attacks have caused shock in northern Nigeria, says the BBC's Lagos correspondent, Will Ross.

Men on motorbikes and in a car opened fire on the emir's convoy as he was returning from a ceremony at a mosque.

"There was an unfortunate incident today. The emir's convoy was attacked by unknown gunmen as he was returning from Koranic graduation ceremony in Kano city, Kano state governor Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso told AFP news agency.

"Three people in his convoy were killed but the Emir is unhurt," he said.

Boko Haram gunmen have killed Muslim clerics before, including those who have spoken out against the group's campaign of violence, says our correspondent.

Emir al-Haji Ado Bayero - who is in his 80s - has been on the throne for almost 50 years and has been careful not to openly denounce the activities of the Islamist militants, he says.

Over the past two years, violence in northern Nigeria has escalated.

Boko Haram is fighting to overthrow the government and create an Islamic state.

The group has admitted being behind a number of attacks against churches and other establishments since 2009.

More than 600 people were killed last year in attacks blamed on it.

Human rights groups say that more than 3,000 people have been killed by Boko Haram since 2010.

It almost looks like there is a deliberate attempt by some quarters to launder the image of Boko Haram from a group targeting Christians to a group targeting all Nigerians[/size]
