The Government of Niger Republic has said that French soldiers are taking proactive steps guarding uranium ore mining facilities in the country. President Mahamadou Issoufou (Mohammed Yussuf) has confirmed to a certain French news media that they took the preventive measure to strenghten security in the mines following the hostage taking of foreigners on a gas refinery plant in Algeria in recent days. A French company, Areva , is the biggest uranium miner in Niger - the 5th largest uranium producer in the world. In the past three years a group of Islamist militants have kidnapped four French citizens working for Areva in Niger.

Bloody lie and another silly propaganda. Nigeria, care next to nothing about Mali Uranium deposit, that's france business. If however France's business provides our troops with enough cover (including air cover) in Mali so be it. Our interest is security concern. Nigeria is in due to reason explain below:

The Federal Government is in a desperate manhunt for the leaders of the Boko Haram Islamic sect believed to be hiding in the desert and mountains of northern Mali.

Security operatives are believed to be acting on the information that key figures in the sect were sighted in northern Mali in December.

Saturday PUNCH investigations reveal that the Nigerian government is committing a huge amount of money to the prosecution of the campaign against the Islamists in northern Mali because of the belief in security circles that the area has been a haven for wanted commanders of the sect.

Please note the face of the ugly bastard. Support the troop and stop spreading hateful propaganda.

It is normal for France to secure its economic interest and to protect French citizens living in West Africa, Malians and their neighbours from Jihadists. You do not expect France not to protect its economic interest knowing fully well that the easiest way for the Jihadists to get back at them is to strike at the mining facilities which will also be harmful to Mali's economy.

On Nigeria's incursion into Mali because of the belief that it is where BH commanders are, and also where there are trained, to me doesn't sound justifiable. Its a known fact that the command structure of the Islamists groups leading the Malian Rebels and with ties to BH; AQIM and MOJWA in particular are dominated by Algerians and Mauritanians. These groups are perceived as foreign invaders, motivated by racism and greed as well as a perverted view of their faith. So if France and AFISMA are successful in driving them out of Mali, it doesn't mean that their operation ceases to exist because their organisational base is in the Magreb and all they have to do is pitch their tent elsewhere. Nigeria with its porous borders may be at the receiving end of it all. IMHO!

Olumide,

yes....in the war of the future you cripple your opponent or rival by monopolising right of way. military armaments will have less meaning in future battles. there is need to maintain and retain the savior identity. you cannot be savior to people wiped out in a bomb drop. those who sit firmly on right of ways will control the economy and as well human survival.

France could care less if northern mali kill off entire population of the south or if thevtide turned and south mali massacre and wipe out its north.......its all about right of way for their future and global relevance.

take dat,

correct! if we are in mali to chase bokoharam then we ought to also be in chad, niger and cameroon....these are territories that have contributed and continue to supply footsoldiers to strenghten bokoharam. they are all francophone. we are in mali not because we need to defeat boko but because France told us to go to Mali. If France is intent on fighting terrorism they should support Nigeria to kill off boko as Nigeria is supporting them to kill Mali islamists. .......dont you agree?

@Negro,

I concur with your assertion. Isn't it a shame that Nigeria with its financial and military support in mediating and peace keeping missions in Africa and especially West Africa is not leading the AFISMA group. When the UN resolution supporting the foreign militarism in Mali stated that it should be a joint effort between the Malian troops and AFISMA and here is France, taking the lead with Nigeria relegated to the back after supporting the intervention with billions of naira and with no economic gains in return.
