Nigeria, as well as a lot of countries around the world, still operates under a patriarch system...which is slowly evolving. Until that glass ceiling for women is shattered, the answer will always be YES.

Most women excel very well in there various fields of endeavour. A lot of employers have come to realize this and they normally throw the interview slots open without gender discrmination.
Your case of not getting the job may be that you've not performed satisfatorily.

Right from the days of Solomon, the Kingdom of Women suffereth violence and the Violent Taketh by Force.

In same vein,

Right from the days of Shagari, the Kingdom of Jobseekers suffereth violence and the Violent Taketh by Force.
Be handheld unto success.

My dear women. Why not create jobs and Bleep-up the men in the labor market?

You need to visit blue-chip companies in Nigeria to form your opinion. I have formed mine long time ago.

Women actually seem to be getting more jobs these days than men.

There are a slew of jobs like customer service, marketing/sales, relationship management, administrative services, Human Resources, which always seem to be overwhelmingly populated by women. This is due to the soft skills required by those jobs. They usually require a pretty face, nice voice, calm, politeness, and empathy, which comes naturally to women.

@Op.. Sincerely speaking, it depends on the nature of the job. But from my own investigation and analysis, Labour market is favoring women more in our present millennium. Women are fast thinkers but slow to effect their thought (due to reluctance). They are good in making fast decision(but their decision is myopic). Organization built in this present age wants people who will give them fast idea irrespective of life-span of such idea to solve immediate problem and women are good at this. But men are slow thinker and they take their time to effect a decision because they want everlasting solution to problems by looking at the merit and demerit of their ideas and decision. New age companies aren't patient because they wanna make fast profit. That explains why woman are favoured in the labour market than men. Watch out for such firm that employ more women than men, they don't last long (Quote me)

The simple truth is men get more jobs on merit, women get more jobs unmerited.
Re: Nigerian Labour Market Favour Men Than Women? by kokoye(m): 4:36pm On May 03, 2013
It's not only in Nigeria...blame the system:

- Men dont take maternity leave

- men dont complain about harrasement

- Men dont have mentural period issues

- Men can work very late hours

- Men tend to have more control their emotions

- Most women cant stand female bosses...men dont care

...etc....

who will you blame...the creator??

He's right dude, I work in a brewery (utilities section) and our foolish former boss that have soft spot for women hired lots of women to the detriment of the guys. What it meant was that in a shift with a woman, the guys suffer more cos women naturally can't do most of the jobs. Now one is heavily pregnant and is as good as nothing now. My point is that woman naturally is not suppose to be employed in some fields while they fit in perfectly in other fields. Chai
