Call her MAROON!

The name of a calm, soothing color. Somewhere between cold (blue) and red (warm).

Maroon is a color of mysticism, mystery, elegance and discipline!

Whatever name you choose, please try not to make it like "Jane Mary" or "Susan Michael" or "Linda Moses" or any of those stupid first English name + first English name scheme that Nigerians think makes them white.

Gosh, that's a lot of replies. I'll see if I can sift through them and answer a few questions.

1. Story doesn't take place in 2013, but 2010.

2. Yoruba and Igbo were the most common names available to me and the ones I had seen discussed on most forums. But I don't mind Hausa or other tribal suggestions. As was stated, I'm not that knowledgeable about them, so I appreciate any help.

3. Thanks for the suggestions! I will try to comb through them and see which ones are serious and which ones are jokes. If anyone has any real resources/sites to suggest, I would appreciate that, too!

Abrantie: Whatever name you choose, please try not to make it like "Jane Mary" or "Susan Michael" or "Linda Moses" or any of those stupid first English name + first English name scheme that Nigerians think makes them white.

Exactly what I'm attempting to avoid. Hence, my sucking up a bit of courage and just asking around. Even if I do seem to have gotten a lot of spam in the process. :-)

Thanks, Ileke-IdI!

I really like Toyin as well. Do you know what tribe or meaning this name has? Isi is also a really pretty sound, but the only meaning I can find for it is a Choctaw tribe one. Can you shed some light on any of these?

I really like the names Amaka, Demilola, and Toyin so far.

Do you know if there are any rules to surnames or common sounding surnames I could mesh with those names?

Toyin means "worthy to be praised". It's short version of OLUWATOYIN (God is worthy to be praised)

Yoruba.

A lot of Non-Nigerians think the name is very pretty. I get lots of compliments grin cool

As for the surnames, there is no rule. However, post the surname you have in mind here and I'll tell you if it sounds sexy or not.

@Op what are you working on exactly?

Efua - (Edo tribe) stands for 'the LIGHT'
Efe- (Edo tribe) stands for 'riches'

if you care to mix local and English name and since she's a judo star, and you mentioned she's loving quiet and polite you could have:

'Efua Jade' - means lighted stone of love, wisdom and prosperity
