Amaechi Promises 20-hours Power Supply In Rivers State By March by Nobody: 4:28pm On Feb 16, 2013
Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Ameachi has said that his administration would achieve the dream of providing 24-hours uninterrupted power supply to the state, and promised that a minimum of 20-hours power supply daily would be achieved by March 2013.

Ameachi said this Friday in Port Harcourt while conducting members of the National Good Governance Tour (NGGT) team led by the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku to the 252 megawatts Omoku gas turbine, one of the Federal Government projects under National Integrated Power Project (NIPP).

The governor who admitted that his government had failed in its bid to achieve uninterrupted power supply last year, said efforts were on to gear to actualise the feat by March.
The contractor handling the project, Rockson EngineeringNigeria Limited told the tour team that the plant would beready before December 2013 if gas supply agreement was perfected.

Ameachi however dismissed the fear of difficulty in gas supply to the plant, as he said that the plant was located near AGIP petroleum facility to ensure gas supply and to keep the gas pipeline away from the reach of vandals.

The state commissioner for power, Mr. Augustine Nwokocha disclosed that progress at the Rivers State Government 150 megawatts power plant, also located at Omoku was disrupted largely due to the felling of two transmission towers along the East-West road by vandals.

He also said that a scrap market in Aba, Abia State where vandalised power transmission equipment were being sold to unsuspecting buyers had been uncovered and would soon be raided.

According to him, the marketwas identified following high intelligence information gathered by officials of Rivers State Government whose transmission towers were vandalised and stolen parts taken to the Aba market.

"Some transmission towers were destroyed by vandals in Ndele Community of Emohua Local Government Area and at a time when the state governor, Chibuike Amaechi was making efforts to fulfil a promise of steady power supply to the people of the state," he said.

Governor Amaechi obviously thinks stable power supply begins and ends with building of power plants and one or two transmission facilities. He forgot about the unprecedented dilapidated distribution networks. Personally, I dont expect sustainable improvement in power supply until private firms take over the PHCN distribution facilities.

U have a point here, I think Ameachi talks too much and little to show for. I jst pray it doesn't go down the way Peter Odili made so much noise about Gas turbines and power. Enure even just 12hours daily of uninterupted power in rivers state and the pple wud sing a 3rd term song for u. However for power to ur elbow

You must be kidding, power supply doesn't start and end with its generation and buiding of few new transmission lines, but then do you want the man to start his own state-wide power distribution grid? What our seemingnly parasitic FG is suppose to do is prioritize more, states that pump more power into the National grid when distributing so they can be motivated to pump more power into the grid and possibly overshoot their power need. This your gameplan of checkmating Ameachi along with the likes of Fashola, Tinubu, and Buhari will do you and your boss no significant good.

Issue of power is a complex 1? In my area of PH we did not see light yesterday, today and shall update you guys tomorrow.
