The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC), has hailed former defence minister, General Theophilus Danjuma (retd) over his call for Nigerians to defend themselves against Fulani herdsmen. Danjuma had on Saturday, at the convocation of Taraba State University, urged Nigerians to use whatever means at their disposal to defend themselves against killers, accusing the military of complicity. His declaration has continued to generate mixed reactions across the country. A statement issued yesterday by OYC’s President, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and made available to newsmen, said Danjuma’s stand was a further affirmation of earlier call they had made. The OYC had, shortly after herdsmen attacked Ebonyi State communities, vowed to return fire for fire, should such killings re-occur in any part of Igboland. The group had accused the Federal Government of double standard in the handling of Fulani herdsmen’s killings and Igbo youths’ non-violent agitation for the restoration of the sovereign state of Biafra. “Hence, we, hereby, tell Igbo youths to form rings to guide and protect their communities and farmlands, and deal decisively with anybody destroying their farmlands through cow grazing and or bearing arms, but not a known licensed security person. “We warn that nobody has monopoly of violence and Igbo nation will surely defend itself. Enough is enough. “Any armed herdsman sighted anywhere in the South East will have himself to blame. Arise and defend Igboland through well recognised vigilance groups,” it stated on the eve of Ebonyi attack. The group re-echoed its earlier stand for self-defence against the rampaging herdsmen. “Danjuma has justified the position of Ohanaeze youths worldwide, we will resist any attempt to forcefully Islamise our people and we are ready to resist the herdsmen. “Like Danjuma clearly pointed out, there seems to be a serious collaboration between security agencies and the herdsmen. “It appears there are two laws in this country, one for the Igbo and another for the Hausa-Fulani. “How else can one justify the recent statements in the media that the government was considering amnesty for Boko Haram terrorists? It is shocking and unthinkable. “This is the same government that hurriedly branded the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organisation, but is now courting internationally acclaimed terrorists. “So, nobody should expect that Ndigbo should fold their arms while the killer herdsmen come here and achieve their evil agenda. We shall resist it with the last drop of our blood. “We have enough men and youths to resist them before they get into the Atlantic. “We urge more Nigerians to speak up. We are proud of some governors in the South East, who have come up to defend the course of Ndigbo,” the group said. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/03/ohanaeze-youth-backs-danjuma-on-call.html

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, Monday, hailed former Defence Minister, retired Gen. Theophilus Danjuma over his call on Nigerians to defend themselves against marauding Fulani herdsmen. Danjuma had on Saturday at the convocation of Taraba State University urged on Nigerians to use whatever means at their disposal to defend themselves against killers. His declaration has continued to generate mixed reactions across the country. In a statement issued by the OYC, which was signed by its President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, he said Danjuma’s stand was a further affirmation of earlier call made the Ohanaeze Youths. DAILY POST recalls that the OYC had shortly after herdsmen attacked Ebonyi State communities, vowed to return fire for fire should such killings re-occur in any part of Igbo land. The group had accused the Federal government of adopted double standard in the handling of the Fulani herdsmen terrorism and Igbo’s non-violent youths agitating for the restoration of the sovereign state of Biafra. “Hence we hereby tell Igbo youths to form rings to guide and protect their communities and farmlands and deal decisively with anybody destroying their farmlands through cow grazing and or bearing arms but he is not a known licensed security person. “We warn that nobody has a monopoly of violence and Igbo nation will surely defend itself. Enough is enough. Any Armed herdsmen sighted anywhere in the South-East will have himself to blame. Arise and defend Igbo land through well recognized vigilante groups,” it had stated on the eve of the Ebonyi attack. Speaking on Danjuma’s call, Isiguzoro said, “it has been our earlier stand; we have been calling for self-defence; so, today we are re-echoing that stand. “Danjuma has justified the position of Ohanaeze Youths worldwide, we will resist any attempt to forcefully Islamize our people; the herdsmen militia, we are ready to resist them. “Like Danjuma clearly pointed out, there seems to be a serious collaboration between the security agencies and these herdsmen. It appears there are two laws in this country- one for the Igbos and another for the Hausa-Fulani. “How else will one justify the recent statements in the media that the government was considering amnesty for the Boko Haram terrorists? It is shocking; it is unthinkable. This is the same government that hurriedly branded the IPOB as a terrorist organization, but same government is not courting internationally acclaimed terrorists. “So, nobody should expect that Ndigbo would fold their arms and these killer herdsmen come here and achieve their evil agenda. We shall resist it with the last drop of our blood. “We have enough men and youths that will resist them before they get into the Atlantic; we urge more Nigerians to speak up; we are proud of some governors in the South-East who have come up to defend the course of Ndigbo. “We have no arms anywhere but Ndigbo are emergency specialists; we have our own way of fighting our battles without rockets and guns. We repeat, it shall be fire for fire.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/03/herdsmen-killings-danjuma-in-order-it.html

The Nigerian government has explained why Boko Haram released abducted Dapchi girls within one month. The sect had abducted Chibok school girls in April 2014 and still holds dozens of them in captivity. Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, at a press conference on Sunday, said the Buhari administration was more proactive in the recent case. His words: “As I have said time and again, there is no government that will not face tragedies. What makes the difference is how such tragedies are managed. “President Buhari put this in perspective when he said the response of his Administration is a marked departure from the attitude of the preceding administration in the aftermath of the kidnap of the 276 Chibok girls in 2014. “Whereas it took that administration 18 days to even acknowledge the kidnap of the girls, the current administration was responsive and was not in denial. No stone was left unturned to secure the release of the girls. For the record, the following actions were taken: The President sent FG’s delegation twice to Dapchi and Damaturu, within four days, to engage in fact-finding and to condole with the government and people of Yobe State and the families of the abducted girls. I was on both delegations. The President ordered the Service Chiefs and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take direct charge and brief him on a daily basis on the efforts to bring back the girls. The President ordered the re-strengthening of a Joint Operational Base involving relevant agencies and Services to coordinate the rescue mission. Consequently, the Service Commanders established a unified Command Centre in Maiduguri, and the Military also raised several rescue teams to comb the forests in the North East Theatre of Operation. The Nigerian Air Force maintained aerial surveillance of the area all through. “It was not a surprise, therefore, that this abduction ended about a month after it occurred, and that most of the girls are free.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/03/boko-haram-why-dapchi-girls-were-freed.html

Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s media assistant, Mr. Reno Omokri, on Tuesday asked the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, to call Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo to order for accusing Jonathan of sharing N150 billion two weeks to the 2015 elections. Omokri made the call in a statement he issued yesterday, debunking a claim by the vice president that while it spent a paltry N14 billion on agriculture in 2014, N15 billion on transportation, and only N153 billion on infrastructure in three years, it shared N150 billion two weeks to the 2015 elections. He said if President Buhari “will not intervene and rein in his vice president by calling him to order, I respectfully call on Pastor Adeboye to step in and call Osinbajo to order.” He urged Adeboye to remember a biblical admonition in Revelations 21:8, which states that all liars “shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone.” Contrary to Osinbajo’s claim, Omokri noted that Jonathan did not share N150 billion two weeks to the 2015 election, thereby challenging him to come out with his proofs. He said: “If Osinbajo has proof that Jonathan did so, then we challenge him to publish his proof. He is a professor of law and ought to know that he who alleges must prove. “Again, it is a lie from the pit of hell that the Jonathan administration spent only N14 billion on agriculture and N153 billion on infrastructure in three years as alleged by the fallacious Osinbajo. “The Jonathan administration budgeted and spent over $10 billion on infrastructure in five years between May 6, 2010 and May 29, 2015,” Omokri noted. He explained that the single most expensive and valuable project built in Nigeria in the last 20 years “is the $1.8 billion Abuja-Kaduna 187 kilometres super-fast railway that enables Nigerians work in Abuja and live in Kaduna. “This project was built and completed by the Jonathan administration. Is the vice president aware of this? Also, Jonathan revived railways in five of the six geo-political zones and restored direct rail services from Lagos to Kano, Port Harcourt to Maiduguri and Makurdi to Gombe,” Jonathan’s aide explained. Despite what he described as Jonathan’s landmark achievement, he lamented that both Buhari and Osinbajo “keep accusing the Jonathan administration of being corrupt and claim that they run an anti-corruption government. “If this is true, how come Nigeria made her best ever improvement in Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index under former President Jonathan government in 2014 when we moved eight places forward from 144 to 136? “Why have we made our worst ever retrogression in the Corruption Perception Index under President Buhari, moving 12 places backward from 136 to 148 in 2018?” He, therefore, observed that the vice president “continues to make these discredited comments because he is a man promoted above his competency.” Omokri said it is sad that the vice president has again surrendered his lips to Satan to be used to spread slander and lies. Nigerians may recall that lying is the most consistent achievement of Osinbajo’s almost three years as vice president.” He pointed out another unfounded claim the vice president made on October 20, 2017 in Anambra State where he disclosed that the present administration had paid $2 billion for the second Niger Bridge. Jonathan’s media aide said: “I personally exposed that lie and forced the Presidency to issue a clarification. The money released was N2 billion. It came from the Sovereign Wealth Fund set up by the Jonathan administration which the APC resisted and challenged in court.” He recalled that in February 2016, the vice president again lied when he claimed that both the Jonathan and Yar’adua governments did not build a single road. Omokri said the fact was easily disproved when even members of this administration, including Buhari, began inauguration of projects roads built by the Jonathan administration. According to him, some of the roads either built or rebuilt by the Jonathan administration include the Benin-Ore portions of the Benin-Lagos road, the Vom-Manchok road, the Kano-Zaria road bridge (named after late Emir Ado Bayero) and many more. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/03/call-osinbajo-to-order-omokri-tells.html

Many have been wondering where this Akwa Ibom born screen diva Ini Edo has been, what has she been doing and why as she not been on screens more often, he have the answer to your questions, ask no more. The actress has just been found flaunting her expensive pair of sun glasses as she is set to step out. The sunglass is made by the popular designer D&G, and the name could be evident as its initials are used to design the frame of this grocery. The designer D&G sunglass is reportedly worth a whooping N900, 000. These huge sunglasses are from the Spring/Summer 2018 collection. The crystal-embellished frame proudly declares the initials of the brand. This same design has been worn by Beyoncé, Blue Ivy and Rihanna. In Nigeria, Toke Makinwa was the first female celebrity to rock the shades. With such amount being used just to acquire a sunglass, if such money was used to help the orphanage and less privileged in her home town it would have served more purpose. Amnesty International (AI) says the Nigerian military was aware of the presence of Boko Haram insurgents in Dapchi, Yobe state, hours before 110 schoolgirls were abducted. The organisation said its investigation revealed the security forces “failed to act” on advance warnings that a convoy of Boko Haram fighters was heading towards Dapchi on the day of the abduction. The insurgents raided the Government Girls Science and Technical College in Dapchi on February 19, after which the schoolgirls went missing. Amnesty said a police source disclosed that officers fled the town over the fear that Boko Haram may “overpower them”. “Evidence available to Amnesty International suggests that there are insufficient troops deployed in the area, and that an absence of patrols and the failure to respond to warnings and engage with Boko Haram contributed to this tragedy,” Osai Ojigho, AI director in Nigeria, said in a statement. “The sighting of an armed convoy at Futchimiram immediately sparked several phone calls to alert authorities. Sources who informed the military commander in Geidam at 2pm report that he responded to them by saying he was aware of the situation and was monitoring it. “At around 3pm, the convoy arrived in Gumsa, where they remained till 5pm. People in Gumsa called Dapchi villagers to warn them that Boko Haram fighters were on their way. One villager who received such a call said he informed a police sergeant who promised to notify the Dapchi division police officer (DPO). “At around 6:30pm, when residents were heading to the mosque for evening prayers, Boko Haram members entered Dapchi. Witnesses said Boko Haram fighters asked for directions to the military post, the local government office and the girls’ school. “A police source in Dapchi told Amnesty International that officers fled because they feared that the Boko Haram fighters would overpower them.” According to Ojigho, the organisation’s crisis advisor for military operations described the military’s response as “woefully inadequate”. Victims and eyewitnesses interviewed were quoted to have said the insurgents arrived Dapchi at about 6:30pm and operated for one hour. “During the attack, army officials both in Geidam and Damaturu were again alerted. The military only arrived in Dapchi one hour after Boko Haram left,” Amnesty said. “The Nigerian authorities must investigate the inexcusable security lapses that allowed this abduction to take place without any tangible attempt to prevent it.” TheCable was unable to get the reaction of the military to AI’s claims. Jude Chukwu, army spokesman, did not answer calls to his phone nor respond to text messages sent. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/03/nigerian-military-alerted-before.html

Senator representing Kano Central District, Rabiu Kwankwaso has spoken on his reported secret meeting with former president Olusegun Obasanjo. Co-Chairman of Nigeria intervention Movement Olisa Agbakoba on Sunday confirmed Obasanjo met with former governors, political parties and some leaders in a secret meeting in Lagos. Reacting, Kwankwaso’s political associate, Hajiya Binta Rabi’u Spikin, dismissed the reports of Kwankwaso’s presence at the meeting. He said the news was based on eagerness of the people to know where Kwankwaso stands. He said “Senator Kwankwaso never met with Obasanjo in Lagos state as speculated. “Senator Kwankwaso was in Kaduna having series of meetings with various stakeholders of Kwankwasiyya-led faction of the APC. The story that went viral on social media was false, unfounded and uncalled-for. “People are clamouring for the ‘real change’ hence they were eager to know where the national leader of Kwankwasiyya, Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso focuses his political attention, so they could follow him.” A member of Kwankwasiyya, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, also denied such meeting, stating that such meeting if it held, it would not be political. “Although I am not aware of any meeting between Obj and Kwankwaso, but in my opinion such a meeting if at all they met should not be seen as political. “This is because the former president is now an elder statesman and has been meeting with various people including President Muhammadu Buhari.” Doguwa added http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/03/kwankwaso-speaks-on-secret-meeting-with.html

Founder of Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has declared that herdsmen killings will not stop anytime soon. He explained that his conclusion was based on the fact that “someone’s body language” is empowering them. The cleric might have referred to President Muhammadu Buhari who critics have accused of not taking a decisive action on killer herdsmen. In a chat with Aledeh.com, Suleman said: “I see it (herdsmen activities) increasing. I am trying to be diplomatic like they want me to be diplomatic because someone’s body language is empowering these herdsmen. “Someone is not coming out openly and boldly say it. No one has been arrested, none have been tried, even those that have been tried the case dissolved like that. “People don’t get consequences for bad behaviour. Elections will not stop the killings it’s going to continue except somebody speaks against it. If someone speaks at this point of election as far as I am concerned it becomes politically motivated.” Suleman also disagreed with directive by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, that those who bear arms illegally should surrender them. “The IG of police is my friend but on this, he is very wrong. International law allows anybody to carry light arms for self-defence so long it is licensed. If you are talking about retrieving arms from the people you have to retrieve arms from the herdsmen. “People don’t fear the cows, they fear the gun. If the people are crying about the herdsmen, the attack on their produce and the farmers, people don’t fear the cows, the people fear the gun. “I am sure growing up you saw herdsmen carrying sticks not guns but now it has changed into carrying guns about. So, if we do not stem this, I don’t see Nigeria having any agricultural future. “Farmers have been chased out of their farms and that is going to increase the state of unemployment which will get back to us because everything is in shambles. It is not enough to make certain statements. Now there is a town in Benue, I can’t remember the name, but the herdsmen have taken over that town in Benue. “They are not dead; they are alive so if you want us to believe you’re serious in dealing with this people then use that as an example. Collect the arms don’t kill them, don’t arrest them, just tell them to submit their arms.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/03/why-herdsmen-killings-will-continue.html

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero will miss today’s Premier League trip to Stoke due to a knee injury. However, the Argentine is hopeful of being sidelined for just two weeks, which should see him return in time for City’s next fixture at Everton on March 31. “During yesterday’s training I had a discomfort on my left knee,” Aguero posted on his official Twitter account. “The club’s doctors told me I’ll be back with the team in approximately two weeks. Now it’s time for a full recovery!” Aguero is also a doubt for Argentina’s World Cup warm-up friendlies against Italy and Spain on March 23 and 27 respectively. The 29-year-old’s next goal for City will be his 200th for the club having netted 30 times already this season. Pep Guardiola’s men seem destined to land the Premier League title as they hold a 13-point lead and have a game in hand over closest challengers Manchester United. However, Aguero will have a big part to play if City are to land a first ever Champions League after easing into the quarter-finals for just the second time in the club’s history with a 5-2 aggregate win over Basel in the last 16. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/03/injury-aguero-out-for-2-weeks.html

About 53 policemen serving in the Presidential Villa, Abuja have protested over their unpaid Risk Caution Allowances since 2015, when they were posted to the Presidency. This was contained in a petition that the policemen filed to President Muhammadu Buhari and obtained Punch. The petition titled, “President Muhammadu Buhari’s mobile policemen plead over unpaid Risk Caution Allowances from May 2015 to date”, reads in part, “About 127 police officers attached to the Presidency have not been paid the balance of their risk caution allowances and about 53 mobile police officers that started working with the present government since 2015 have not been paid anything. “The 53 policemen since the past two years have been languishing in poverty. Most of these policemen did the data capture and were given the presidential tags. Those behind this delay are some of the superior officers like the Squadron, the Principal Staff Officer and the leader of the Presidential Vehicle Movement. “The excuse given by the superior officers was that the affected policemen were boys to the former Squadron leader, one SP Mau’su. “These superiors have started transferring these affected policemen out of the Villa to some states and replacing them with their own boys, who did not suffer and were not there to bear what the policemen went through. We are pleading with our father and President, Muhammadu Buhari, to look into these sufferings from the beginning of his government till date.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/03/aso-rock-policemen-protest-unpaid.html

Igbo spiritual leader, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka (Ogilisi Igbo) has called on Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, not to disarm community vigilance groups established for security purposes in various communities in Anambra State. He urged Idris to allow them continue to use modern weapons for effective results. Idris had, last week, ordered Anambra Police Command to recover illegal arms in the state within 21 days, following which Commissioner of Police Garba Umar set up a nine-man member committee headed by Baba Maiyaki, an assistant commissioner of police for the exercise. Ezeonwuka, in a statement at the weekend, said vigilance groups established by the communities, to operate under the supervision of the Divisional Police Headquarters, town unions and tradition rulers should be allowed to make use of Pump Actions, to enable them work effectively in protecting the people against armed robbers and kidnappers. “The order by the police boss to mop up illegal firearms in Anambra is a security measure which is acceptable to all and I commend the IGP for that but, the issue of restricting local vigilance groups to the use of only double barrel guns is not enough, considering the fact that armed robbers, kidnappers and trigger-hungry herdsmen parade with highly sophisticated weapons.” The Ogirisi Igbo said double barrel guns are meant for hunters of grass cutters and antelopes and not for dare devil robbers and heavily armed criminals, noting that the use of double barrel guns would make the communities extremely vulnerable to armed criminals. He called on the police boss to device more efficient means to supervise and checkmate the operation of the vigilance groups, insisting that community policing requires better weapons than double barrel guns. “I don’t know the report the IGP has on his table, however, my position is that the vigilante boys have to be allowed to make use of Pump Action guns for the purpose of community policing. As a resident, I can attest to the fact that security situation in Anambra State improved remarkably when the vigilance groups started making use of proper guns and the result are there for everyone to see “I commend the IGP for his concern on the security of lives and property in Anambra State in particular and Nigeria in general, however if he has any report of excesses rising from the operation of these groups in Anambra, let there be measures to checkmate such, instead of restricting them to the use of double barrel guns against highly sophisticated criminals,” he said. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/03/dont-disarm-anambra-vigilance-groups.html

The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has berated leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, for failing to attract tangible projects to the state since 2015. Governor Wike said that the Rivers APC leaders, who are working with the failed APC Federal Government, should remain quiet because they could not deliver. Wike said this on Saturday, after the flag-off of the construction of Umueze-Umuogba-Umuokpurukpu-Umueke-Umunju-Umuellechi-Eberi road in Omuma Local Government Area of the state. He said, “The Federal Government has no tangible project in Rivers State after close to three years in government. These APC leaders from Rivers State have been unable to attract a single project. “If you know that you cannot deliver projects to the people of Rivers State, you better keep quiet and allow us develop the state.” According to Wike, as a Minister of State for Education, he was able to attract 22 key projects to the State and grants for Ignatius Ajuru University of Education and Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic. The National Assembly has vowed to override President Muhammadu Buhari’s veto on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill. The bill seeks to re-order the sequence of the polls during general elections starting from the 2019 polls. The Senate has made its intention to exercise its veto powers should Buhari withhold assent on the bill known. The House of Representatives had earlier said the lawmakers would not hesitate to override the President’s decision if he vetoed the bill. The Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazak Namdas, told Punch that members would not change their minds on the Electoral Act as amended. He said that the National Assembly expected the President to append his signature to the bill. He had said, “We are serious about this issue and we are not ready to reverse it. “For now, the bill has gone to Mr. President and we are waiting for his response. If his response is that he won ’t sign, we are ready to override his veto. “I can assure you that in both chambers of the National Assembly, we will get the required two – thirds majority to override the veto.” Confirming the uniformity of the choice by the two chambers, the Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, also told the newspaper that the lawmakers were set to override the President on the bill. Senator Ben Bruce said the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on the amendment was “irrelevant” to the National Assembly and its legislative functions. According to him, “If you understand the principle of separation of powers, you will see that is not necessary. We make laws for the country. “That is our job, to make laws. We make the law and they obey it. It is non-negotiable. “We make laws for the country and everybody including the executive must obey the laws we make. It is not for them to decide which laws to obey or which ones to accept or not. “If the bill is not signed within 30 days, then we will override it. It is not important if the President signs it or not. “Once it is 30 days, we will override it. It is irrelevant. They have just 30 days. If he vetoes it in 30 days, we will override him.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/03/election-re-ordering-what-well-do-if.html
