Belinda Effah is a Nigerian actress and presenter. She won the Most Promising Act of the Year award at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards.

Nigerian comedian owen gee has hinted that live is not that smooth with comedians because they tend to make people laugh and forget their worries.

Owen was suffering from depression when all was not going as he had planned, and he even attempted to take his live due to depression and frustration, but he was always held back from committing this atrocity.

According to him, there are no drugs that can help anyone eliminate depression as he tried it many times and all to no avail.

He told Punch;

I have had suicidal tendencies,” he said. “Last year, I tried several things, but they did not work out. It was not because the ideas were bad, but the people I was working with just didn’t let them work out. Then anxity and depression set in.

“It was then I realised that no drug could calm depression. There was hardly anyone I didn’t take. There was a time I was sleeping on drugs. There was a particular yellow tablet that, if I took it on Tuesday, on Wednesday I would only be prompted to barely wake up, eat and go back to sleep even before I finished eating. I would not wake up until Thursday.”

Nigerian on air personality Agatha Amata who was formerly married to Fred Amata is working on a new movie project she titles “disguise”.

According to her the movie is set to expose what a man thinks a lady wants and to also expose what a lady really needs from a man.

The producer disclosed that women when together always try saying the truth amongst them while when men are together they are always very open about things, and as such the only way to get to know what these two parties thing it’s to inject someone opposite but in disguise.

Due to this reason, Ik Ogbonna was deployed to disguise as a lady and Nancy Isime disguised as a man to get information.

When Agatha was asked on what she thinks will stand out in her movies she said;

“First of all, I don’t do movies for doing sake. It has to have a message. You can just imagine IK Ogbonna in a woman’s body and Nancy in a man’s body. It is funny, but it does not remove the message. This is not my first movie. I have done ‘The Addict’, and ‘The Widow’. They have all been issue-based because that is the kind of producer I am. There are certain things that I have experienced and heard and I’m like won’t it be nice for people to have a share? I like to deal with issues, and this particular one was done in a very light-hearted way.”

Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Tunde Fowler, has advised prominent Nigerians with tax liabilities to take advantage of the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) before it is too late.

Fowler told newsmen in Lagos that VAIDS offers all categories of tax debtors the opportunity to regularize their tax status.

He warned that failure to take advantage of the tax amnesty programme, which ends on 31 March, 2018, will attract a number of sanctions.

Fowler said after the deadline, defaulters will face payment of penalties and interests on owed taxes, tax audits and prosecution.

He also stated that neither President Muhammadu Buhari, who nominated him as FIRS Chairman, nor Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who heads the Federal Government Economic Team, has given instructions that that tax-owing influential Nigerians be treated differently.

Fowler warned that the government is ready, willing and able to take tough actions against individuals and corporate entities who neglect to take advantage of VAIDS.

“I am a nominee of the President. I was confirmed by the Senate. We work with the Vice President who is the head of the Economic Team, and the Federal Ministry of Finance.

“We have not been instructed to avoid, on account of political or corporate position, taking necessary actions to recover taxes.

“I do not think it will happen. VAIDS is for all Nigerians old enough to pay tax. It will speed up development of the country,” said Fowler.

The FIRS boss however commended Nigerians with tax liabilities who have been approaching the FIRS and state revenue authorities to express their intention to declare their income for the purpose of VAIDS.

He stated that tax authorities are in possession of huge volumes of transaction and financial data obtained from banks, payment platforms and government agencies.

Gone are the days when Genevieve and Omotola were Nollywood’s most prominent actresses. They were at par with each other and all the rest were below them as they were indisputably the best, just like football superstars, Ronaldo and Messi, are undisputedly above their colleagues.

But they fizzled out about four or five years ago, and Nollywood has not been the same since then. Though Mercy Johnson tried after them to make Nollywood sparkle, just like Funke Akindele, Tonto Dike and a few others have continued to strive, the sector is still lacking the X-factor Genny and Omosexy had.

Now, Omotola is making a gradual but steady comeback. Unexpectedly, last year, she returned to the big screen as the lead character of Alter Ego, a movie on sexual molestation, which is still generating a lot of buzz.

She’s also the lead in The Island, a TV series, a lead in the Kunle Afolayan-produced albinism advocacy flick, The Tribunal. With these major roles in her kitty, you can be sure more will come her way as she’s still a fan-favourite and a box-office attraction far and above the current crop of actresses.

But when you talk about Omotola, you must talk about Genevieve. Again, just like Ronaldo-Messi, one is nothing without the other.

When they both dropped out of the reckoning of Nollywood producers, Genny still made more moves than her arch-rival to remain relevant. She produced and starred in the mildly successful Road To Yesterday and was also in Half Of A Yellow Sun.

Inevitably, she faced the reality that the producers were no longer demanding for her and since her rival wasn’t faring better, maybe that gave her the moral to accept that fact so she should also back out.

Recently, the news about her was that she had gone behind the camera as a director and had directed the production of Lion Heart. Marriage rumours are also trailing her, but they are not concrete yet.

But now that Omotola is making a comeback, will Genny still be contented to stay behind the camera, out of the limelight? Will she be unperturbed that Omotola is getting the acting-related headlines while she’s not?

The Defence Headquarters is angry with Amnesty International (AI) for accusing the Nigerian military of human rights violations in its recently released 2017/2018 reports.

The DHQ thinks the indictment is a gross disservice to the nation’s high security command, especially so when AI “has made it a routine duty to continue to generate tension among Nigerians by releasing unconfirmed and unsubstantiated claims and figures relating to the military operations in the country to the public.”

The Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General John Agim, in a statement in Abuja yesterday, said the AI allegations have followed specific trends and possibly “ill conceived to frustrate the on-going US-Nigerian anti-terrorism cooperation.”

He said AI’s action seems to “be geared towards weakening the efforts of the AFN at ensuring peace and security in the country,” and claimed that the organization’s allegations made against the AFN since 2011 to date “are largely unsubstantiated.”

He said:”The figures released by the organization showed that 4,900 Boko Haram detainees were held in Giwa Barracks in an overcrowded facility where 340 detainees had already died of diseases and dehydration. They further stated that 164 civilians were killed by the Nigerian Air Force when an IDP camp was hit at Rann by a Nigerian Air Force fighter Jet and also that 12 IPOB members were kill in Umuahia by the AFN.

“Unfortunately, AI has failed to acknowledge the on-going fair trial and conviction of culpable members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect and the release of those not found guilty. The number of persons released and re-integrated with the larger community is over 500.Both the convicted and freed suspects were earlier arrested from different locations across the country and taken to Kainji, a place that is relatively safer with enough space to accommodate them while providing the detainees with three square meals daily.

“The suspects were also given proper medical attention by military medical team attached to the detention facility. It is notable that the arrested Boko Haram members from the ongoing OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE were being tried by the Federal High Court at Wawa Cantonment Kainji since Friday 16 February 2018 convicting 205 detainees to various jail terms while 526 suspects have been freed for want of evidence.

“Other sins of the Nigerian Government as captured by the AI in its report include infringing the rights of lesbians, gays, bi-sexual and transgender as well as intersex persons. These AI championed rights have been strictly outlawed by Laws of the Federation of Nigeria subsuming the Nigerian constitution as well as the cultural practices of our people.

“This position of AI, clearly show slack of respect for the constitution of Nigeria which these laws have become part. Let it be known that the Nigerian Government and its people are not ready and would never be, even in future, to please AI or anyone with the introduction of such things.

“However, if AI feels strongly against the position of the Nigerian people on this issue and wants to assist the ‘victims’, they could issue these class of people with green cards to enable them re-locate to other places across the world that accept such practices as it may not be necessary for them to remain Nigerians.

“Generally, the authenticity and sources of figures generated by AI are worrisome. Regrettably, the military high commands were never contacted for clarification or guidance. The Defence Headquarters on its own made concerted efforts to meet with the country management of AI to discuss related issues without success, as they had consistently failed to show up.

“This reaction of AI connotes that the body in Nigeria could had been sponsored to frustrate conflict resolution efforts towards peace and positive development of the nation. The deliberate falsehood peddled by AI could cast the nation and its security apparatus in bad light.”

The DHQ accused AI of not seeing “anything wrong about the insurgents’ activities and known criminals until security agencies rise to the occasion of effectively containing their actions.”

Nigerian Nollywood actor Jim Iyke who had also delved into the music industry way back to try his luck has spoken out on the industry.

Jim Iyke sang some couple of songs which did not make wave even though he featured Tuface and Puffy T, in his recent chat he has revealed that he know he is a terrible singer although he just wanted to experiment if he could invest in the industry.

Speaking of talents, the actor who said he is not a talented singer disclosed that it is not necessary about the talent but on how you understand and package your work.

He said;

“Of course, I knew the songs were bad; I am my greatest critic. I had to put some ‘swag’ into the songs that featured Tuface to sing one or two lines. To be honest, how many true talents are in the industry at the moment?

Most of the less talented ones are getting far ahead of the talented ones. It is not about having talent but understanding the business and project what works for you. It is all about the way you ‘package’ it and sell it to the world; that is all. I can name a few terrible artistes but they are getting way ahead of the gifted ones.”

He was born on September 25, 1976 in Libreville, Gabon. His parents are Mr and Mrs Stephen Okolue, whose last name changed to Esomugha from Enugu Agidi town in Anambra State. He is the only boy in a family of eight children.

Jim Iyke studied at the University of Jos, Plateau State where he got a diploma in Banking and Finance and then a B.Sc. in Philosophy.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday evening told state governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress to give him more time to decide whether or not he would seek re-election in 2019.

He told the governors this at a meeting they had with him at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of the meeting held behind closed doors.

Okorocha said the President promised them that he would soon address the nation and the caucus of the party on the matter.

The governor said, “We discussed so many issues that affect the nation, our party and Mr. President’s ambition to run for the 2019 presidential election.

“It is the desire of the governors that Mr. President should run for this exalted office given his performance in the last two years. We believe that if he continues, Nigeria will be better for it.

“Anyhow, Mr. President, in his usual manner, has requested that we give him time and that he will address the nation and the caucus of the party very soon.

“So, we should be full of expectations that Mr. President will make officially known to Nigerians his intentions but we hope that his response will be in line with what the governors are thinking.”

That was the second time Buhari would be meeting the APC governors in the last one week.

The governors had last Friday met with him in his country home in Daura, Katsina State.

Although it was believed that the meeting had to do with the politics of 2019, Okorocha had told reporters that the governors visited Buhari to commiserate with him on the death of two members of his extended family.

The APC governors who met with Buhari had earlier in the day joined other governors from other political parties and former Presidents and Heads of Government for a meeting of the Council of State.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former military dictator, Ibrahim Babangida, among other political and religious leaders had asked Buhari not to seek re-election in 2019.

Nigerian Nollywood long standing actress Steph Nora has disclosed that she was se-ua-ly harassed by a producer in Nollywood.

The actress was asked during an interview if she has been sexually harassed in Nollywood, the actress replied saying she was even threatened with a knife held to her neck and forced to str-p.

In the previous interview Nora was asked if Omotola and Genevieve were are contemporary in the movie industry, but she reply thus;

“I had already cut my teeth in the industry way before they came in. but while in the industry we did some jobs together. I started acting with the likes of Sandra Achums, Eucharia Anunobi, Liz Benson, Alex Lopez and Susan Patrick and a host of others.”

Steph Nora Okoke started her acting career immediately after her compulsory National Youth Service Corps program in 1995 and she became quite popular in the industry at that time. She became a household name in the early 2000s, but not much has been heard of her in recent times.

Bishop of the Enugu Ecclesiastical Province of Anglican Communion, Archbishop Emmanuel Chukwuma, has stated that no South East governor will be allowed to give land to herdsmen terrorists in any guise.

Bishop Chukwuma, who was speaking to journalists at the Cathedral Church of the Good Shepherd, Enugu, noted that herdsmen are armed, dangerous and as such, are a threat to farmers in the coming farming season.

He said: “We cannot have colony for terrorists; people that are dangerous, who have guns and other dangerous equipment for killing and maiming our people and farming will become difficult.

“Very soon, farming will start, how can you have colony when you have farmers ready to go to farm and are scared because of herdsmen.

Something needs to be done by the government and security agencies to make everywhere secured and to make everybody join in agriculture which the government is talking about.

“Cattle colony is another agenda for Islamizing Nigeria. Forget about what they said, once anybody or state has the colony, they will continue to impregnate people and they will begin to expand. We don’t want that.

I have stayed in the North and have never seen where their cows are being reared all over the place. Cattle rearing is a private business.

“As far as I am concerned, no governor in South East will accept and should accept any colony for any cattle rearer because they have become dangerous and we don’t know what they might become tomorrow. They are dangerous and I say, they are worse than IPOB. They should be described as a terrorist group too.”

The Bishop also reacted to the call by two former presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida on President Buhari not to consider re-election as not being the solution to Nigeria’s problem, stating that the question is who will succeed the president when he leaves.

Wife of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Uchechi, has declared that election won’t hold in the South East in 2019.

Uchechi warned that failure to produce the separatist leader, would lead to election boycott in the South East, come 2019.

Speaking with BBC Igbo, Uchechi said, “In the next coming election, we need to have that in mind that for us to ever be better, we need to stand up.

“Yes, Nnamdi Kanu’s issue should be the number one thing. Where is he? You need to provide him, at least tell us where he is.

“You need to at least do something before you run an election, otherwise we’re not going to vote.”

She also dismissed insinuations that Kanu’s conduct as the leader of IPOB was illegal.

“What makes it illegal? Why should that be treasonous? One asking for self-determination. Why is that a crime? It’s not a crime,” she said.

Uchechi, who is based in London, had earlier maintained that her husband is in custody of the Nigerian Army.

Renowned singer Sammie Okposo is a multiple award winning international Nigerian gospel artiste.

According to the artiste, he has experienced the ups and down of life despite coming from a Christian and spiritual family.

According to him, his father is an Elder while his mother is a Deaconess. He was born in a church, but as a youth he left home to see what life is all about.

He said “I got out of line and thought I could take care of myself. I was a youth who wanted to experiment and that is what happens to young men who want to know everything. I always tell people that I am not a saint. I have done it all; I have stayed in Ajegunle, I have lived in the jungle and I have shared a room with about eight other people. I tell people who look at me and think I have always been like this. I have made some wrong decisions; I had been in wrong places at the wrong time.”

He is a music producer, psalmist, entertainment consultant and the CEO of Zamar Entertainment.

Okposo's music career started in 1992 when he joined the Nigerian movie industry as a sound track producer and later ventured into full music production. He is credited for producing hit songs for the biggest names in the Nigerian music scene.

The Borno State Police Command has confirmed that 3 suicide bombers killed 18 people in a multiple suicide bomb attacks in Konduga town of Konduga LGA of Borno state yesterday in the night between 8.30 pm and 9 pm.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Damian Chukwu who made the confirmation in a telephone conversation with The Nigerian Voice Saturday morning said the three suicide bombers who detonated their IEDs Friday night also wounded 22 other people who were rushed to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital UMTH immediately for treatment.

The commissioner added that the total number of death was 21 including the three suicide bombers while the total number of those injured was 22 and normalcy has already returned in the area.

According to him, three suicide bombers, comprising of two females and one male entered Konduga park along the road passing through the town where people do gather to relax and buy things in the night, at times watch videos/films.

They detonated their IEDs killing themselves and 18 innocent people and the IEDs wounded 22 other people who were later rushed to the teaching hospital.

However, he maintained that normalcy has been restored and everybody was going about his or her normal business in the area.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Satumari Kudla has declared that President Muhammadu Buhari will not get any vote in the North, come 2019.

Kudla, who gave reasons for his declaration said Buhari’s government has been tested and has failed, adding that Nigerians have come to the understanding that the former ruling party is the “strongest party”.

Speaking with The Sun, the APC chieftain said, “Everything that is happening today is to the advantage of the PDP. The party respects the rule of law and gave an opportunity for freedom of expression. Just like someone said, you are free to say what you have and you are also free after you have said it. We cannot say the same of this present government. There is the free of speech. But it depends on what speech that is made and by whom. Freedom after your speech is no longer guaranteed in this government. PDP is the only party that is national in character and composition.

“Just like the issue you raised on statements made, they may not have understood the complicity when they were making those statements. Otherwise, someone would not say that if there is no electricity after certain period of time ‘you should stone them.’ That it is only a bad government that won’t be able to provide electricity in six months. We are running to almost 25 months and nothing is being done differently. So the lack of appreciation may have made those people to say that and it was out of bitterness and anger over certain things. We are only talking to Nigerians to weigh the differences.

“Most of those people may not return to the position they are occupying because the election of the president was predicated on three major things in 2015. The first is that he was not tested. He was only tested when he was military Head of State. Two, People experienced PDP and not APC. Another issue is that of tribalism. The north felt short-changed following Yar’Adua’s death, whom they saw as an extension of former president, Obasanjo, who was responsible for the victory. The last issue is religion. Buhari is a Muslim. So in 2015 election, there was no sentiment that was not thrown into the election to the extent that some of the Muslims in the north were seeing him as their candidate. I am not going to blame him also. Even some Christians saw Jonathan as theirs. The issues led him to get those votes.

“2019 may be different in the sense that we have tested his (Buhari) governance and we know how it is. Again the PDP, which is the strongest party, has announced that their candidate would emerge from the north. It is going to be north versus north, and not south versus north. The last is that the candidate that will emerge on the platform of the PDP, from the north will also be a Muslim. All the states in the north that gave him (Buhari) high votes will not return the same thing next year.

“For instance, in Kano, where Kwankwaso, comes from, the votes is likely going to be divided into two. Also, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau is also a factor in Kano. So if they come together there might not be a 2 million votes coming from Kano. I also heard that Makarfi has closed rank with former Vice President, Namadi Sambo in Kaduna and the reaction of southern Kaduna to the way issues of insurgency and attacks on their people was handled by El-Rufai is not going down well with them and they form a major block of votes. So Kaduna may not give him the kind of votes he got in 2015.

“In Bauchi, we hear ‘8 o’clock’ , what that means is that on Election Day, the party would be voted out because they don’t like their governor and it is rubbing on their love for the president. Going to Sokoto, we do not know where Tambuwal is at the moment. But his name is being featured as a likely candidate that may come to PDP or form the ‘third force.’ We hear story about him being tipped as a possible presidential candidate. Recall that when president Buhari was in London the members of the cabal saw him as a disloyal member of the party. He is seen as not been loyal to Buhari. Should he move, he is most likely to move to the PDP. And Attahiru Bafarawa, whether you like it or not, is a factor.”

The Police in Ogun State have arrested an acclaimed Pastor and General Overseer of God’s Favour Ministry, Iba, Lagos State, Pastor Daniel Onwugbufor, for armed robbery.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

According to the Police PRO, “The pastor was arrested along with one Israel Animashaun recently through technical intelligence by men of FSARS led by Uba Adams.

“Their arrest followed series of car snatching reports, which the Command has been trying to unravel and have been working on a clue to smash the syndicate.

“Their efforts paid off when one of the snatched cars, a Lexus RX 330 jeep, was tracked down to the pastor at his Iba residence, consequent upon which the pastor was promptly arrested.

“This arrest led to the apprehension of Animashaun, who is an active member of a three man gang of armed robbery syndicate specialized in snatching of exotic cars on gun point.

“On interrogation, Animasaun confessed that he and two others snatched the Lexus jeep on gun point at Ajah in Lagos and took it to the Pastor, who used to help assist them in selling such stolen items,” he said.

He added that the popular pastor only paid him the sum of N350,000 for the car after using it for two weeks before he sent it to his other accomplice.

Burial photos of a man and his daughter have surfaced on the internet. They were reported to have both died of electrocution in their home on the same day in Port Harcourt.
This is quite a painful time for their manner to have lost two members of the family in a day.

The man identified as Emmanuel Azubuike Madu, 59 and his daughter, Chikaosoro Blessing Madu, 24 – who died after they were electrocuted in Port Harcourt were laid to rest on Friday 9th February, 2018 in Isiochi, Abia state.
According to the report hared by one Chidera Chukwudi on social media, the sad incident took place on the 27th of January, 2018 and it was reported that the duo was burnt beyond recognition.
Facebook friends of the lady were in disbelief at the time the report emerged on social media. A lot of her friends claimed it could not be true as Blessing was a jovial lady that was loved by all. And some people said it shouldn’t be that kind of lady that should die on the same day with her father.

Some commentators even tried to debunk the news saying it was all fake and Nigerians should stop this, but the burial photos of the man and his daughter prove the story to be true.
In another photos, the coffins of the duo were laid side by side during the wake keep service and friends and families were there present in a painful and sorrowful mood.
Tragedies befall families, but it is quite more saddening if more than one member of a family had to die on a single day. In a similar incident that happened in December 2017.
Just a day to her birthday, a young Nigerian doctor, Ijeoma Onwubualili, was killed in a ghastly motor accident along the Enugu-Abor road. She reportedly died alongside her parents and her younger sister.
Her dad had hired a driver to take the family from Jos, Plateau State, to the Eastern part of Nigeria, for the traditional marriage of one of his daughters, in January, 2018. They had an accident along the way and lot their lives.

The Katsina State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Shittu S. Shittu, escaped mob attack yesterday evening, when thugs chased him out of the conference room of the Government House.

The incident happened while a former SMEDAN boss, Alhaji Bature Umar Masari, was at the Government House on a solidarity visit, after his recent defection to the APC.

Trouble started when Shittu, in his remark, claimed he did not know Bature Masari very well.

“I cannot say I know you very well but I know you were in PDP and you campaigned against us, when we were in the struggle.

“I hope you have not come here to deceive us and then go away.”

Apparently taking the remark as a slight on Bature Masari, his supporters threw caution to the winds and descended on the APC chairman, in the presence of the governor and senior government and party officials.

It took the intervention of security personnel to smuggle Shittu out of the council chambers.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State

has urged the people of the state to adopt any lawful means to defend themselves from herdsmen.

He lamented that the call became necessary because the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris who should enforce security and safety of the people was playing politics with the unending killings in the state.

The Governor who spoke Tuesday during a live Phone-in Benue Radio Programme, ‘Issues of the Moment’, monitored in Makurdi, accused the Inspector General of Police of becoming the mouthpiece of the murderers of the Benue people.

Governor Ortom said, “The Police said they arrested Livestock Guard members and termed them a militia group fromBenue. It’s just a diversion from the main issue.

“If you want to hang a dog you give it a bad name. That is what the Inspector General of Police is doing, he is the mouthpiece of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore. That is what the man represents. He should therefore resign his current position to serve full time in his new job.

“So bad, they plant weapons on people and take their pictures and claim they are Benue Livestock Guards. Those people are not members of our Livestock Guard. It is just a planned thing.

“The fact is that I am facing a lot of intimidation and blackmail but I am firm and strong because I have trust in God.

“There are threats even on my life, they are on record that I reported to the Police and those people responsible have not been arrested.

“People say they are going to kill the Governor, is that not grievous enough to arrest the people concerned?

“Miyetti came out and owned up and threatened that bloodshed will continue inBenue. Is it not enough evidence for the Inspector General of Police to arrest one person out of the group?”‎
