For the first time in history, OBJ was not invited to the G8 summit. OBJ who was the African Union chiarman and a key political figure in africa. A meeting of global industrilzed nations. this is a big blow to his image and a clear sign that developed countries wants him to not run for the third term.

There is corruption everywhere but when it really will lead majority to suffer, developed countries know how to play their game. OBJ is hearthless and should come down because the way nigeria is as of now, the worst is yet to happen.

Also nigeria lost $500 million HIV grant due to lack of transparency in the way the fund is handles as well as improper documentation and monitoring of activities in nigeria, southern african HIV watch org said.

These things are clear sign that OBJ should come down and save himself some respect like nelson mandela did

I have been asking myself this question. , but let´s be honest Nigeria is the most important country in Africa. China is continously eyeing Nigeria as a huge market so in some years time Nigeria will be leaps and heads ahead of South Africa. Chinse investors and president as most other Asian investors come to us instead of visiting South Afica. White people don´t like to see that a black nation succeeds. Moreover, they always thought that they have got the monopoly on making business with us, suddenly they see that there is competition and they begin to corner Nigeria again (Nigeria third term is a "welcome" invitation for them) How can the president of a comparatively "non-important" country such as Congo-Brazzaville (which is even more non-democratic than our country!!!!) be invited while Oba. receives no invitation, eehh undecidedSomething is not right in here

You goofed. The issue is not "white pple not wanting black pple to succeed". if asians succeeded today against all odds, earthquakes, economic depressions, communism, 2 atomic bombs e.t.c there is no excuse for africans not to!
Obj is not invited because he is no longer welcome in the committee of nations, he is now a typical african despot, eager to mutilate their nation's constitution to perpetuate themselves in power. It is a signal of worse things to come if he eventually succeeds himself in 2007. He shld take a lesson from IBB, how does the ex-president of the most populous black nation on earth not get invited to important international fora?

And concerning Nigeria overtaking SA in "leaps and bounds", all that is in theory. We will only do that when we learn to stop putting our hands intoo the public till. When vice presidents in SA can be arrested for rape and Nigerian politicians are playing bolekaja politics to legitimise stealing of public funds, incompetence and cover it with the garb of immunity, you can decide which country will actually be leaping. Foreign nations are coming here not becos they love us but because of our OIL! China is diversifying so as to satisfy their growing thirst for OIL! They do not have oil yet they are world giants, we do and we are the 2nd poorest nation on earth!

I agree that Nigeria's international posture has dwindled due to the actions and/o inactions of some of our leaders. The following reasons can be attributed to this:

1. Many Nigerians are either not patriotic/ nationalistic or do not believe anything good can come out of Nigeria (this is pitiful and can be illustrated by some comments on this very forum)
2. Lack of bargaining power on the international scene by our foreign policists. That is why after all our human material and financial sacrifice in both Liberia and Sierra Leone for 9 years, we as a nation didnt gain anything for it and were even accused of diamond theft. Now Nigeria has 2200 troops in Darfur Sudan while South Africa has 340. What do we hope to achieve? We need to set our targets in terms of future economic benefits- it might sound mean but the meanest countries are the developed ones.
3. Lack of understanding of the principle of National Interest- No country goes against their National Interest and remains relevant, especially when u have the resources to do so. Nigeria's open flirtation with China threatens the interests of some developed countries. You dont expect them to clap for us.
4. Failure to realise that Nigeria's domestic political and economic climates affect other countries, who are watching with keen interest in order to protect their own interests. Examples are: June 12, Abacha Era and Third Term.
5. Lack of long time strategic forecasts on the part of our politicians and strategists.
