obailala: If the 2 anthems must be sung, is the proper thing not to sing the anthem of the host country last? Isnt it how its done in football games?Na football match be this? SMH @ the reasoning of people |

NAptu has said it all, there is no big deal in it. It only shows that your anthemn is more important. It is same as giving your seat to a visitor as a host. Afterall most Nigerians will prefer being paid in dollars to Naira. |

The argument has moved from whether or not the National anthem of NIgeria was sung last to why the American anthem was considered at all. |

I don't believe any of this, its just another joke of the politics, what is the good thing happening is Ogun State? |
Re: American Anthem Announced Before Nigeria’s At THISDAY Awards by obailala(m): 10:04am On Feb 27, 2013 |
ochukoccna: Pull yourself to order before your head falls off from shaking. What I'm trying to say is that IF THE 2 ANTHEMS MUST BE SUNG, then the anthem of the host country should be last. In this case, the problem should rather have been why they would play the usa anthem at all in Nigeria simply because of bill clinton 2 Likes |

You are right also. In this case we should be arguing about the need to play the US anthem not which one is played 1st. Afam4eva: |

Why should American athem be sung in the first place in an even meanrt to honour Nigerian teachers in Nigeria? Ah! ah!! Just because a white man is present the organiser wants to please him by singing his country's anthem..smh...How many times was Nigerian anthem sung when Obasanjo was invited for events in America as a former president? Over to you supporters of the organisers...the height of inferiority complex |

Whosoever came up with such idea in the first place should be really beaten and jailed for life! what nonsense! People like this are what makes Nigeria as a nation look like a joke...! If an event was holding in the US and our sitting head of state was invited, would the Nigerian anthem even be considered not to talk of singing it at all? All this silly people with inferiority complex. No wonder funds for the poor was used to bring Jayz and Beyonce to Nigeria, and Fashola would rather spend tax payers money on a prostitute than improve the lives of the people who voted him into power! 1 Like |

naptu2: Those guests got it wrong. The Nigerian anthem is always played last (because it's the most important). I posted this on another thread: You have a point but I still think its pointless singing the US anthem..Who are we trying to please in the 1st place? |

Leon H. Sullivan Summit VI in Abuja circa 2003. That was the first time in my life that I saw someone get the order of precedence wrong. Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and George W. Bush were present. The little girl (about 10 years old) on the traditional xylophone played "Arise O Compatriots" before the "Star Spangled Banner". Of course, at other occasions during that visit the Brigade of Guards band played the anthems and they correctly played the american anthem first. I may not like what happened at the awards in Ogun, but it is not illegal. |
