The Benue State Command of the State Security Service (SSS) Friday in Makurdi, foiled a major plan to swindle the state Governor, Hon. Gabriel Suswam of $3 million.

Three fraud stars posing as members of staff of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were paraded by the DSS Director in charge of the state, Mr. Rasheed Adediran, who gave the names of the suspects as Mark Gbaa, Bulus Ashon and Nuhu Bawa.


Adediran disclosed that the trio were arrested at the point of collecting the money from the governor, after they had tendered a phony letter to him.

According to him, “two of them were intercepted at the government House while the prime suspect, Mark was later arrested in Jos, the Plateau State capital, following a thorough interrogation of the initial suspects.”


“During investigation, it was discovered that the two men were actually sent by Mark Gbaa, an indigene of Tombo in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.

“We gathered that he sent Bulus and Nuhu to come and collect the said money from the Governor to help him (Suswam) settle certain unresolved cases he had with the EFCC.”


The DSS Director explained further that “he (Mark) initially gave his name as Nasir Nasama while his other accomplices posed as EFCC officials; they are helping the command in its investigations because we gathered that one leading member of the gang is on the run but we are on his trail.”

He further revealed that Nuhu was an employee of College of Technology, Pankshin, while Bulus is a Mobile Policeman with the 44 Police Mobile Force, Abuja.
Reacting to the allegations, Gbaa, who confirmed that the money involved was three million Dollar however said he did not pose as an EFCC official but as a Consultant in Conflict Resolution insisting that his two accomplices were privy to the whole deal.
