FG taps into $900m global microwork job initiative

The Ministry of Communication Technology will on Monday, March 18, unveil a job creation scheme tagged “Microwork for Job Creation-Naijacloud,” as part of efforts to reduce unemployment and create wealth for youths across the country.

“Microwork for Job Creation in Nigeria” initiative includes two aspects of Paid Crowd sourcing technology: Microwork and e-Lancing.

Paid crowd sourcing is an expanded segment within the new virtual economy with significant job creation potential for skilled (e-Lancing) and semi-skilled workers (Microwork).

The estimated global size of the microwork market ranges between $450 and $900 million annually.

The Ministry, with support from the STEP-B project, under the Ministry of Education will launch “Microwork for Jobs Creation in Nigeria” to address the issues of unemployment, job creation and employability among the nation’s graduates, using information technology.

The primary objective of the project, the organisers say, is to create awareness about work opportunities in the Microwork and e-Lancing space as well as create job opportunities for youths in Nigeria in order to reduce the unemployment rate among our youths in the nation.

The initiative also aims to reduce the country’s brain drain, create business opportunities for potential Nigerian Microwork and e-Lancing Companies, wealth creation opportunities for the young and showcase opportunities for Nigerian businesses to work more efficiently and have a broader Nigerian workers database.

The statement stressed that the Ministry of Communications Technology in line with its mandate to create jobs by taking advantage of fast-growing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Nigeria is tapping into the Microwork opportunity in order to reduce youth unemployment, which currently stands at 60per cent level for youths. Industry experts say this is too high for a nation like Nigeria as it is a time bomb waiting to explode.

The Microwork for job creation **naijacloud** is an initiative targeted at unemployed Nigerians using the ICT platform. Unemployed youths with access to phone and internet looking for work or job opportunities are encouraged to take advantage of this initiative.

To drive the initiative, a free workshop provided by internationally acclaimed companies (Crowdflower, Elance, ODesk, Mobileworks and Samasource) will be held simultaneously at the -Digital Bridge Institute, Oshodi, Lagos on March 18 and 19 and Cham’s City, Abuja on the March 18.

This initiative, the statement added, is unique because the participants do not have to be University graduates or any special qualification to attend because the minimum requirement is just basic computer skills

Moderators!!!
Why isn't this on the front page.
This clearly epitomizes the Nigerian culture, all the young people simply want to make money without working for it.
if it was something on WizzKid or Tonto Dike we would have 100s of comments
DISAPPOINTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another deceptive scam to confuse the people
Re: FG Taps Into $900m Global Microwork Job Initiative by CyberG: 3:08am On Mar 23, 2013
This is another deception and failure of a program which 90% of Nigerians will find useless! What this useless government is not saying or does not know is that people who would have a chance on this platform are highly proficient and successful software developers with current and relevant portfolio to contracts with customers. The job opportunities are contracts posted by people needing to have a product built, e.g. an app. There is no guarantee that you in Nigeria will be selected when there are millions of developers, perhaps more experienced, in better managed and reputable countries! Where is the power to continually power your laptop if you were to for example land a contract to build a piece of software, e.g. an app for $1,000 = $150,000? Where is the high speed internet in case you need to burn the midnight oil to read up volumes of materials and tutorials? How will a potential client trust a Nigerian in Nigeria with an initial payment of $500 and will not worry you will disappear? Whether it be $900 M or $900 B, the fact remains that Nigerians in Nigeria do not operate in a system that allows them to take advantage of these kind of opportunities yet! Now assuming there are still a number of people who get contracts, it is still not a permanent job, and how many people will be on this platform? Even at 50,000 which is really doubtful, the unemployment rate of Nigeria is still through the roof!

Plz if you have an interest in the programme apply QUICKLY.

Pay no heed to FOOOLISH and FRUSTRATED posters like the one above. We have seen this before. This was exactly how these same people deceived some persons during the 1st YOUWin Programme, saying all sorts of things about it including that it was a 'Deceit' played by Govt. Today, 1200 'wise' young persons have been giving free training, mentorship and Capital ranging from #1-10million and they are expanding their businesses and living the dream. Another 1200 persons (females) are also about to be taken again for the 2nd phase. I know of some persons who believed these same Apostles of Doom and Gloom, and are seriously regretting today.

What will you lose if it does work out?? Plz, do not EVER allow yourself to be lured in by the Demonstrated FRUSTRATION of some few people. One's Destiny is in his hands alone.

Nuff said.

the article was 1st posted on the 11th of March with just 2 views and single comment on it.
The 2nd comment was on the 22nd , that is 3 whole days AFTER the program seminar was supposed to have been held in oshodi (from my house, I could have taken a #50 bike down to the place and STROLLED back to my house if I so desire.
The point is: check out the time I'm just seeing it & commenting right away. I honestly wonder what must have been going on through the mind of the MOD for this particular thread, and we dare claim that the poor fellow at the center of My Oga @ The Top-gate does not know his onions. smh
Anyway I suggest anyone who is tech-savvy should do the necessary research and find a way to plug into the program #dats all.

mb: if it has been tontal-decay or any other unprofitable venture the news would have made FP+ in seconds with a million likes and comments

Haha...you and your family are the fooolishest and dumbest asssholes alive! Is it not you that is paid to spread BS and eat the shaite of the dumbo GEJ? You have no clue how things work in real life but anything to sucker Nigerians to these scams is enough grounds for celebration for losers like you! grin grin As crappy as youwin programme, getting contracts likely from outside Nigeria to build software is a different kettle of fish. Or is the government just going to be giving money to every registrant? Is this not a platform for people to bid for contracts online, from clients more likely to be outside Nigeria? How come you speak as though $ 900 M is coming from your useless dumbo GEJ government? Well, I only pity the people who will keep running helter-skelter hoping they will find them one honest way to be truly employed and not all this scams coming from your useless retardeen!
