News By VICTOR AHIUMA-YOUNG LAGOS— WORKERS in the Federal Hospitals and other health institutions across the country have issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to address five pending industrial disputes including non-implementation of 2012 collective agreement between government and the health sector unions, raising fears of another industrial unrest in the federal health institutions. The workers comprising Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria, MHWUN, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, Nigerian Union of Pharmacists, Medical laboratory Scientists and Professionals Allied to Medicine, NUPMTPAM, Senior Staff Association of Universities’ Teaching Hospitals Research Institutes and Allied Institutions, SSAUTHRIAI, and, Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, said the ultimatum would start counting from today, Monday, March 18. Operating under the umbrella of the Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, at a meeting in Abuja, reviewed its relationship with the Federal Ministry of Health, FMOH, on Non-implementation of May 10, 2012 Collective Agreement, Acts of victimization and discrimination of members, appointment of Chief Medical Directors and call for the removal of the Health Minister, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu. They decried the Federal Government’s alleged care free attitudes towards members of the five unions. In a statement issued at the end of its meeting, the unions said: “The Joint Health Sector Unions reviewed its relationship with the Federal Ministry of Health, FMOH, with reference to the 10 points demand first presented to the Minister of Health on September 26, 2011 and notes that four of the ten points of demand namely; skipping of Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure, CONHESS, 10 salary grade, non- payment of specialist allowance, issues of consultancy status for allied health professionals and call duty allowance re- negotiation were referred by the Minister of Labour and Productivity to the National Industrial Court, NIC, for adjudication since September, 2012.” www.vanguardngr.com |
