BOKO HARAM: Where Are The Leaders From The North? by Euroclydon(m): 4:17pm On Mar 20, 2013

One would have expected that with the clout that names like Gen Buhari, Nasir El-Rufai, IBB, AbdulSalam Abubakar, Adamu Ciroma, Tanko Yakassai, Lawan Kaita, Nuhu Ribdu, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi & other Leaders from Northern Nigeria would have by now been able to use the cult-like follower-ship they enjoy over there to open communication channels with Boko Haram, Ansaru and other militant groups in that region towards having these group enter into direct peace talks with the Federal Government of Nigeria [FGN].
This is just as names like Alamieyeseigha, J.P. Clark, etc did with the Niger Delta crises that eventually led to the "Niger Delta Amnesty Programme" and of course brokered under a President from Northern Nigeria. So why can't these Northern Leaders reciprocate this gesture by brokering possible peace in the North under the leadership of a President from the South-south?

Why did Gen Buhari quickly wash his hands off the possibility of representing the country in talks with Boko Haram? Why are the so-called Borno Leaders and representatives of the Northern Governors’ Forum holding nocturnal talks with these groups without properly carrying the Presidency along?
What is it with these growing calls from these same set of people for the Presidency to "declare unconditional amnesty" in favor of Boko Haram without first showing the FGN who these guys are; what they want; and how they want to be rehabilitated; so is GEJ supposed to just say "you are all free" and then the bombings would just stop without any cut-off dates set for these disengagements as was the case with the Niger Deltan programme?

How come these leaders from the North only seem eager to be "Leaders" when:

1. seeking electoral positions;

2. seeking for the Presidency to be returned to them;

3. they want to threaten that "the country would become ungovernable if they don't achieve [2] above

but shy away from the basic responsibility of having their people live in peace and be saved from imminent extinction?

And please don’t tell me – “but they are not the President and Chief Security Officer of the country” because Alamieyeseigha and J.P Clark, and others were also not Presidents as well when they brokered the Niger Delta Peace talks.

It's unfortunate that the northern elites have decided to allow this continue, without regards to the value of human lives. God is watching them

what do you expect from people that are behind what is happening in the country. just because the president is not from the Northern extraction that is why these beasts swore to make things difficult for him. they forgot that Nigeria is nobody's birthright.

Mr Afolabi God bless you so much for being a man that speaks the truth without fear or favour, if this country have more of people like you I believe we will not be in this mess we found ourselves.

All those northern leaders you mentioned are not honest, humane, truthful and without any form of integrity. Since these blood suckers called boko haram were spilling innocent blood how many of them have come out to condemn it in strong terms? None. But I want to let them no that boko haram has caused irrepairable damage to the core north as far as Nigeria is concerned, because the innocent blood that have been spilled will cry out for vengeance from the creator and vengeance they must get. I am Igbo and they said it will be hard for us to rule this nation but with this boko haram issue it will be harder for the core north to rule this country, becoming this countrys president will favour south south then middle belt before any other group.
