White British children are being outperformed at school by a wide range of ethnic minority groups, including Chinese, Sri Lankan and Nigerian youngsters, a leading think-tank has revealed.

Figures obtained under the Freedom of Information act by the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) show the percentage of children classed as white British or English gaining five A* to C grades at GCSE is below the national average.

Some nine minority groups of children are above the average, including Vietnamese, Indian, Ghanaian, Bangladeshi and Sierra Leone, the local authority data reveals.

But the report adds that some groups, such as Portuguese, Congolese and Yemeni students, are under-achieving.

that's what you call brain drain. it's not really a positive thing.
the average nigerian can't read and write. while the best among us are studying abroad and content to be outperforming the average brit.

This is absolutely not correct. Nigeria's literacy index should be more than 60% at present.

^ ok. literacy index in UK is 100%
so, giving you the benefit of doubt, that's still about half of UK's literacy rate.

I also think it has nothing to do with the best among us, (otherwise most Nigerians would be trooping into the UK via scholarships) but who has the money or is able to gather some money to travel.
