Palm Sunday commemorates the triumphal entrance of Christ into Jerusalem (Matthew 21:1-9), when palm branches were placed in His path, before His arrest on Holy Thursday and His Crucifixion on Good Friday. It thus marks the beginning of Holy Week, the final week of Lent, and the week in which Christians celebrate the mystery of their salvation through Christ's Death and His Resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Date: The Sunday before Easter Sunday; see When Is Palm Sunday? for the date this year.
Type of Feast: Solemnity
Readings: Luke 19:28-40 (at the procession with palms); Isaiah 50:4-7; Psalm 22:8-9, 17-18, 19-20, 23-24; Philemon 2:6-11; Luke 22:14—23:56 (long form) or Luke 23:1-49 (full text here)
Other Names for the Feast: Passion Sunday, Sunday of the Passion, Yew Sunday, Branch Sunday, Entry of the Lord Into Jerusalem

History of Palm Sunday:
Beginning in the fourth century in Jerusalem, Palm Sunday was marked by a procession of the faithful carrying palm branches, representing the Jews who celebrated Christ's entrance into Jerusalem. In the early centuries, the procession began on the Mount of the Ascension and proceeded to the Church of the Holy Cross.

As the practice spread throughout the Christian world by the ninth century, the procession would begin in each church with the blessing of palms, proceed outside the church, and then return to the church for the reading of the Passion according to the Gospel of Matthew. The faithful would continue to hold the palms during the reading of the Passion. In this way, they would recall that many of the same people who greeted Christ with shouts of joy on Palm Sunday would call for His Death on Good Friday-a powerful reminder of our own weakness and the sinfulness that causes us to reject Christ.

In different parts of the Christian world, particularly where palms were historically hard to obtain, branches of other bushes and trees were used, including olive, box elder, spruce, and various willows. Perhaps best known is the Slavic custom of using pussy willows, which are among the earliest of plants to bud out in the spring.

The faithful have traditionally decorated their houses with the palms from Palm Sunday, and, in many countries, a custom developed of weaving the palms into crosses that were placed on home altars or other places of prayer. Since the palms have been blessed, they should not simply be discarded; rather, the faithful return them to their local parish in the weeks before Lent, to be burned and used as the ashes for Ash Wednesday.

To me palm Sunday signifies victory over the original sin which we inherited from Adam. Jesus's triumphant entry into Jerusalem with people placing the palm fronds for him to ride on Jesus is showing us how we can be above every situation in life. It the beginning of the holy week.

What is the meaning of the name "Easter" ? You have been led to suppose the word means "resurrection of Christ." For 1600years the Western world has been taught that Christ rose from the dead on Sunday morning. But that is merely one of the fables the Apostle Paul warned readers of the New Testament to expect. The resurrection did not occur on Sunday! (For the astonishing proof setting forth the exact time of the resurrection, write for our free booklet "The Resurrection Was Not on Sunday."wink
The name "Easter," which is marry the slightly changed English spelling of the name of the ancient Assyrian and Babylonian goddess Ishtar, comes to us from old Teutonic mythology where it is known as Ostern. The Phoenician name of this goddess was Astarte, consort of Baal, the sun god, whose worship is denounced by the Almighty in the Bible as the most abominable of all pagan idolatry.
Look up the word "Easter" in Webster's dictionary. You will find it clearly reveals the pagan origin of the name.

it is a sin cuz d christians neva celebrate easter, during d days of Jesus, he neva instruct us 2celebrate it, even easter is one of the pagan days Paul warned Gentile converts they must not return toobserving (Gal. 4:9-10) .

Christ only gave us one specific celebration to observe which is his death.
He said we shld keep doing this in remembrance of him as recorded in the bible book of luke 22:19.
He never asked his followers to celebrate his triumphant entry into jeruselem and other unbiblical celebrations that christendom faithfuls have been observing for decades now which are purely doctrines and most are pagan customs that were brought into christianity but they are not instructions from our lord jesus christ and that was why when he went back to heaven, his desciples continue to carryout only the instructions he gave before leaving. They didn't add unlike what is obtainable today among christendom churches today.
His triumphant entry was a symbolic demonstration of his kingship and not a celebration that should be observed annualy since he never comanded us to do that.
If we must celebrate everything, then its appropriate to also add the day he was baptised, the day he was tempted by the devil himself, the day he rebuked peter, the day peter denied him, the day the angel appeared to mary informing him about christ miraculous birth and even the day she got overshadowed by the holy spirit.
The point is that, we should just do as commanded and not to do things just because we desire them and they seems good but are they biblical commandements?
Obedience is better than sacrifice.
As christians, christ only instructed us to celebrate his death and dats all. Consult ur bible if in doubt.
