A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has warned that the refusal of President Goodluck Jonathan to grant amnesty to terror group, Boko Haram, can plunge the country into another civil war.

Ribadu, who was the presidential candidate for the Action Congress of Nigeria in the 2011 presidential election, spoke on Liberty FM in Kaduna on Saturday.

He urged the President to grant amnesty to the violent Islamist sect for peace to return to the country, saying he (Jonathan) should not claim that the sect members were ghosts.

He argued that with the way things were happening in the country, if nothing was done, “Nigerians will lose Nigeria to a civil war.”

Advising Nigerians against voting for a leader they can not trust, he told Jonathan to “hearken to the voice of the people.”

Ribadu said, “Jonathan was wrong to have said he will not grant amnesty to Boko Haram; he should not fail to protect the people and when people call saying we are tired, we are down; even if it means to dialogue and have an solution to the whole process, he should opt for such.

“You cannot say they are faceless because faceless people do not do things like this. Faceless people cannot be responsible and daily you see them on Facebook. Faceless people cannot be in your custody; ghosts cannot be people that are in the community, people who at a point wanted to dialogue.”

The former EFCC chairman added that a war could be averted “if we come together forgetting about sentiments, about differences and working towards unity and saving the r

Another useless talk. I thought ribadu was better than el-rufai. These northern clowns are constantly vomiting nonsense. Don't worry, sit back and watch how Boko Haram is being wiped out before your very eyes, the hit is on in Lagos, other states will follow.

You Nigerians failed to understand that is people like you dying on Boko deadly act. Jonathan has no family among the victims of Boko dreaded act but you and i either by accident or by other means. If Jona or govt. has no solution at hand instead of endangering or allowing Boko to kill more innocent Nigeria why can’t they throw in amnesty and allow peace to rain! Those who lose their lives can’t be revived and applying this brutal method will lead to more death of Nigerians, either Boko or member of JTF. President should use his sense and prevent single Nigerian from dying.

You must also understand that these boko boys are faceless people that have never accepted dialogue needless amnesty. Members of Boko Haram have never stated interest in dialogue or amnesty. I'm surprised that various northern individuals are clamouring for their amnesty. At the end, these same faceless touts will come out to say that they don't need amnesty. Its so painful that people are dying, this is not peculiar to Nigeria, other countries have their own share of terrorist's uprising. I strongly beleive that these boys are just mere tools that are used by the northern elites to distabilize jonathan's government.

How are you sure they are not the one behind Boko Haram? If they hope to benefit from it, they wont look for solution.

Imagine who will benefit if bombing continues till 2015. Campaign will not focus on the real issues affecting but rather religion and ethnicity - and this is the strategy of PDP.

They ( Northern leaders) should keep sponsoring and supporting them, instead of stopping them.

There would no amnesty for Boko Haram, what would be granted / given to the families of those killed by Boko Haram?

Nuhu Ribadu should bring back to life all killed by Boko Haram.

You spoke my mind. Most northerners are not thinking right and they don't value human life. Is that what their Quran teaches?
