MNP
Mobile Number Portability is defined as:
The ability of a cellular mobile service user to change his/her subscription to another cellular network operator, while retaining his/her original directory number (MSISDN), including the Network Dialing Code/Operator Prefix.

COMMOMLY USED TERMS

Subscriber: The customer who owns the number to be ported
Block Holder: The operator to whom the block containing the ported number was originally allocated
Donor: The operator currently servicing a subscriber at the time the subscriber asked another operator for service
Recipient: The operator whose services the subscriber will use when number porting is complete
Port In: Process of activating a subscriber on the Recipient's network
Port Out: Process of deactivating a subscriber from the Donor's network

BUSINESS RULES

A summary of the Business Rules governing Mobile Number Portability is as follows:
Port Requests are initiated by the Recipient Operator, on request by a subscriber currently being serviced by the Donor Operator.
In addition to the Recipient Operator’s request, the customer is required to send an SMS with the keyword “PORT” to the designated NPC short code (3232).
Port Requests are carried out at no cost to the customer, and must be completed within 2 working days.
Prepaid customers who port out of a Donor Operator will lose all existing airtime balance on their lines during the port process.
Postpaid customers will need to settle all outstanding bills, and may still be given a final bill after the port is complete.
Customers who wish to port must have completed SIM Card registration (KYC) with the Donor Operator, as the KYC details are required for the port process.
Multiple port requests for the same MSISDN are not permitted, whether from the same or from different Recipient Operators; only the initial request will be processed.
Once the port process is complete, customers must remain with the Recipient Operator for a minimum of 90 days before initiating another port request.
Port Requests can only be initiated from a physical customer touch point (Showrooms, Authorised Dealers, designated Port Request outlets).
Port Requests cannot be cancelled or stopped once the customer has sent the Port Validation SMS.
