From WALTER UKAEGBU,Abuja

Minister of Special Duties, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has said that the Federal Government has earmarked N100 billion for constituency projects, while N30 billion has already been released in the first quarter of 2013.

The minister, who spoke to newsmen in Abuja, yesterday, in his maiden media briefing, stated that the Presidency was concerned about constituency projects and had decided that it should come under the ministry.

“The ministry is without borders as we have the mandate to evaluate every project and also have the responsibility to monitor all decisions made by the presidency and smoothen relationship between the three tiers of government,” he said.

Turaki disclosed that there has been so much acrimony on constituency projects which he stressed added to the delay in the signing of the 2013 Budget. He explained that the mission of the ministry would be to make sure that it would be able to meet up with the challenges of the system more so those ministries that have been in comatose, improve the issue of government and smoothen the act of governance.

On whether the leadership of the National Assembly was aware of moving the issue of constituency projects to his ministry and how they felt about it, the minister stated that they are aware and that they still intend to talk with them on the issue.

“We intend to look at things/issues holistically because there should be a synergy. Also whatever one ministry is doing, the other ought to know. This is because we would want to make the organization as one of the most robust ministries, “he stated.

On whether he expects any conflict with other ministries, Turaki did not rule out the possibility that there might be some ministries that still find it difficult for the change but explained he would talk it over with such ministries.

No wonder the Legislators are furious against the Executive.

First thing in line with checks and balances has been to starve the Legislators this avenue they use to steal public fund which forces them to compromise with their colleagues in the Executive.

As the one corruption slogan will say "Chop I chop", it will now change to " If I no chop, you no go chop".

At las,t Nigerians will benefit from the exclusive implementation of yearly budget with proper over-sight function by the NASS.
