Hey! Ever heard about the Nigerian student that built a touchless GSM phone from scratch? http://reviews.wura.tv/nigerian-college-student-build-touchless-smartphone-from-the-scratch/ Let me share a bit of my story with you… I was lucky, I discovered I loved building tech stuff at a very young age, so I had dreams of building phones and other things but was disappointed when I got into university and found that they won’t teach me everything I needed to fulfill my dreams. So, apart from studying electrical/electronic engineering in school, I spent lots of time learning what they couldn't teach me in school. As a young student I put in years of dedication and invested over a hundred thousand Naira (earned from working part-time) into learning hardware development skills from gurus who didn’t even go to school. In summary, my quest for knowledge from outside my LOCAL university had me learning hardware development from gurus in the STREETS of Benin and then beyond borders, learning WORLD CLASS software development from experts in the largest university in Germany - during my internship, all in a bid to get an understanding of how things worked. In the end, although, I graduated with a second class lower, but I was more educated (technologically) than many other graduates in my time. Shortly after graduation, amongst over 21 million unemployed Nigerian graduates (many with first class degrees), I was sought after by not just companies but industries, got involved in teaching Africa with people from MIT & Harvard, was retained at my place of youth service and now, I get to do big time research and development in partnership with big companies like Shell, and I give God all the glory. Many people say I’m successful in tech because I was trained in Germany, but I believe it’s a combination of first of all my hunger for knowledge, belief in God, what I learnt from school, street and international training and certification that got me here, but which ever you believe, the most important thing right now is, you don't have to wait for your school to teach you everything or pay hundreds of thousands to learn from people on the streets or travel six thousand miles to Germany to learn to create amazing tech. If you’re so hungry for tech knowledge like I was and you want to become a master in designing electronic circuits, and programming microcontrollers, just follow me as I teach you hardware development from Novice to European Masters level at Oseke University – my online tech education website. And for every course you finish, you automatically get a certificate that you can show your employers or instantly share with your friends on social media. You may not be so hungry for tech knowledge but do you want to standout after you graduate? Do you want companies to look for you? Do you want going abroad to be an option rather than your only way to survive on earth? Then you need to start sowing seeds of knowledge today so you would reap great rewards in future. You must learn the technology skills and pursue the things you want out of life. That’s what I’m offering you today. REGISTER NOW! @ university.oseke.com Learn & Master electronics design and embedded systems! Become an outstanding student! Get your dream job! Create and sell tech solutions! Gather wealth! My biggest take away from participating at TEDx Portharcourt was the importance of a tech ecosystem in Nigeria as put forth by the legendary Emeka Okoye, because technology is the key performance indicator of developed nations. Technology allows developed nations to grow more crops, use information efficiently, have better health care, leverage demographics info to distribute resources, prevent corruption and provide security, measure governance; hold leaders accountable and many more. The bottom line is always technology development. But we need a great technology ecosystem to foster rapid technology development. So, how do we create this tech ecosystem? In this piece, I share the results of my research and put practical cases and steps that we can all take as good people of Nigeria, to help us build a great technology ecosystem. Dear Young Nigerians, Being thankful for becoming a year older today, I’ve decided to share a bit with you particularly in the area of building a better Nigeria. My message is no matter your current discipline, don't see technology as just another field of specialty and yourself as a mere consumer, instead see it as a lifestyle and nation building tool. Learn to create valuable technology solutions, solve problems, gather wealth, build this nation, and let's all live happily ever after! #History_101 I’ve researched and learnt that there have been several generations of Nigerian people, each tasked with a common purpose or mission. The first generation was tasked with liberation, the next generation was tasked with revealing resources and they produced scholars and discovered Oil. Now, we are in a new generation and I believe we are tasked with a mission to take Nigeria from a developing nation to become a developed nation. I also believe our mission will be achieved, not by fighting war, not by cursing or fighting leaders, not by blaming churches, not just by prayers, not by division, but by using the power of technology. Technology is the key performance indicator of developed nations. Technology allows many countries to grow more crops, use information efficiently, have better health care, leverage demographics info to distribute resources, prevent corruption and provide security, measure governance; hold leaders accountable and many more. The bottom line is always technology. #Technology_and_Us If it’s technology, don’t we have people who are capable of using technology to solve problems in this nation? – Yes we do, my generation is a generation of living Nigerians born after 1980 and this generation is highly exposed to technology, but unfortunately only a few have learnt how to use it to solve problems, others have refused to see it as a tool for solving problems; rather we see it as a tool for having fun, showing off, spreading rumors, relaxing and sharing photos on social media. We have left technology solutions to other countries to create for us and we see ourselves as consumers of technology. We blame our older generation and leaders for all our problems and refuse to do anything about them because we think we can’t, forgetting that we have a powerful tool within our reach. This must be why Prof. Wole Soyinka declared our generation as a wasted generation. But hear me, my young people, there isn't a thing that you see or use today that didn't come from the mind of someone who was most likely not even as smart as you. They said we are a developing nation doesn't mean we're developing just by growing older, it means they think our youths are actually innovating and mixing passion with hardship to create solutions. Ask yourself, are you really doing that? If no, then next time something is wrong instead of pointing fingers at the government or blaming your parents, look in the mirror and point fingers at yourself too! If you don't do what you're supposed to do, what right do you really have to blame other people? Read more on my facebook page @ https://web.facebook.com/omijieo/ Please like my facebook page for more detailed ideas, philosophy, actions steps all in a bid to bring the Nigerian dream to life, to become a developed nation. Thanks. |

Our schools in Nigeria, do not teach students to become self sufficient, that's a major problem, they only produce employees to saturate our streets - helplessly looking for how to survive after investing years of hard work in getting a good certificate. It's our collective responsibility as good Nigerians to fix this problem. Waiting for govt to fix our educational system is hopeless. Even students who have the initiative to learn self sufficient skills while in school suffer a lot and are not encouraged at all cos they have to take up several jobs just to get money to pay for practical experience outside school, and then miss lectures or get poor grades because of the stress of hustling and learning outside school. For example, the ideal engineering school is meant to train engineers with relevant theory and real world practicals, but this is not the case in most schools in Nigeria. In the end, our schools produce electrical engineers that can't differentiate between live and neutral wire, mechanical engineers that can't differentiate between spanner and pliers, no need to go on with more examples, for you may already know more examples than I can think of. If we continue like this, we will never, I repeat, we will never be able to excel economically in this country. Why? Because we are in a time when the wealthiest nations are no longer the ones that tap the resources under the feet of its people, but the ones that tap the resources between the ears of its people. Incase, you didn't know this, here's some breaking news for you... "Oil has failed us! Some oil company CEOs are already thinking of buying electric cars" What we can do is to make efforts to provide free and accessible online training for these students who have the initiative to learn to become self employed, so they can eventually employ the ones that have employee in their DNA, cos everybody is different. There's only a handful of students we can reach via live seminars, and most students in this Instagram and Facebook generation already have internet in their blood. So we've created a website with video courses that can teach even a market woman how to build electronics and software products and there's plenty of other skills to learn from other great volunteers to this noble cause. Such as ethics & moral values, better English, financial education, profitable skills etc. This is not only about students, it applies to every living person who needs a way to survive. Let me give you an example, many condemned convicts waiting on the death roll are actually innocent and a slight mistake can land you in prison. So rehabilitating or keeping the mind of the prisoners in good state is also as necessary as the prison consequence, cos If these inmates are not well rehabilitated, the society stands more risk when they eventually gain their freedom. Again we wait for the govt to handle their rehabilitation, special announcement!... "they don't do a good job!" What we can do for them is "intellectual rehabilitation", what if we send flash drives and dvds containing video courses to prison rehab centers to empower inmates with skills, so when they come out, they will have one more option for survival, and with our prayers God can touch their hearts to take the option of using the skill they learnt in prison to survive, instead of killing or stealing or revenging their innocence. So... Are you a student? Compliment your university courses with real world practical skills all for free online, such as 3D automotive design, solar inverter design, PDMS or Hysys for chemical plant design and simulations, electronic design, micro-controller programming etc. Want to become an entrepreneur? Learn valuable skills such as business development, electronics design and manufacturing all free online. Do you want to be a sponsor? We need sponsors to help us keep the system alive. NOTE: For people who don't have internet, we have all courses in flash drives and DVDs and can send to anywhere within Nigeria. Contact us on 07064200401.
