Campaign pictures of the embattled former Governor of Bayelsa state, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, for Senatorial election in Bayela state in the forthcoming 2015 general elections have emerged.

However, the Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, has denied claims that the state pardon granted to former Governor of Bayelsa state, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha is connected to the next general election in 2015.

According to him, “People connecting the pardon with the 2015 general elections are just being mischievous.”

Dr Abati also urged Nigerians to wait till 2014 to known whether President Goodluck Jonathan will run or not in the next general elections.

Speaking Saturday on Channels Television morning programme, the presidential aide justified the presidential pardon saying it followed due process and the criticism trailing the decision is baseless and meant to cause mischief.

“The pardon does not amount to an erosion of the fight against corruption. Even the US cannot deny the fact that any form of pardon comes with political drama” he said.
