Among others, I found these two responses (quoted below) in the ''Ooduwa Republic'' argument on Nigeriavillagesquare site and thought they sound ok.

This is my own prescription. The dismemberment of Nigeria is imminent. But I will rather want to see a north-south dismemberment. Let the north go there way and the south, which I believe have something(s) in common, can indeed stay together but only after careful deliberations and agreements.
Possible arrangements:
New administrative capital=Benin city.
Commercial capital=Lagos
Enugu= Federal city
PH=Federal city.

5-year single and rotational presidency between the SE, SW and SS.

Sounds good to the ears

The SW will be compelled by law to develop Ibadan, Ife and Abeokuta as key regional cities
Similar for Onitsha, Owerri and Aba for the SE
and Yenagoa, Warri and Calabar for the SS

There will be an initial 10 years of communal resources (as it is now in Nigeria) to enable the regions kick off and identify/commence the exploitation of resources other than petroleum (or petroleum in the current non-Niger Delta states eg, Anambra and Enugu where substantial amount of oil exists)

At end of ten years, it will revert to full-blown regional economies (like a real federation should) and each region contributes to the federal purse to pay federal workers and help maintain Benin, Lagos, PH and Enugu.

There shall be no so-called federal character, except in specific positions (see below). Employment shall be by merit, to enable healthy competition in human capacity development in all regions
There shall be no indigenship, but freedom of residency and adoption of place of abode (for those who wish.
Within the initial 10 years of communal resources, there shall be built at least one federal refinery in each region, since there is oil in all regions (it is ok for SS to have two federal refineries already existing in PH and warri, so one each for Ondo and Imo or Abia to be built).
The presidency, senate presidency, rep speaker and chief justice positions shall be truly for ''indigenes'' of places which turn it is to produce same. For example, an Igbo man living in Lagos cannot contest for any of these positions when it is the turn of the Yoruba to produce them.
Above all, there shall be death penalty for governmental corruption.

world, this dismemberment isn't sane. it would take lots of cost to reorganize the financial structure, army and many other things. not to mention the massive relocation that would happen. who is the say, the new north/south countries wouldn't disintegrate further. the old guard of nigerian politicians would still remain
