Abia State and Delta state(Asaba) ABA: Aba was targeted during the war because it is the commercial nerve centre of Eastern Nigeria and. Technology capital of Africa. Also the fact that Aba(Ngwa) people supported Ojukwu during the war made the Nigerian govt to pay serious attention to the town and it environs. The people of Aba (Nnenu) in Obi-Ngwa LGA were the first to learn how to build ogbunigwe(bomb) from the foreign Israeli soldiers. Also Abala in Obi-ngwa LGA are well known to be the best manufacturers of locally made Guns in the country. So Aba was attacked because the Nigerian army knows it to be the strongest point of the Biafra in terms of technology and marketing. So shutdown Aba you win the war was a common slogan used by the Gowon led forces then. Delta(Asaba) late Murtala Mohamed was known to be most wasteful general of his era. He killed both Biafrans and Nigerian soldiers during the war.it is on record that he lost many men more than any other unit commander during the war and was recalled because of his senseless killings at Asaba where he ordered the killing of harmless and defenceless males including children from 10years and above. Cross River Niger Biafra will surrender was another notorious slogan of the Nigerian army then. The Niger bridge was blown-up thrice during the civil war.
