There are so much people who believe the nigeria stock exchange market is not real,it is gambling, it is controlled by nigerian top rich and powerful leaders, you wake up one day and you realize you are losing your finance in the market and before you know what's happening, you've lost millions of naira.

****************
those who think the market is real have genuine reasons and those who think the market is not real also have good point.

****************
now, what's your own belief?

Before nko? Referencing the bolded but as for whether the market is real or not, it is 101% real. Also, whether its "controlled" by the elite, that as much is true. Can money be made from it, the answer from me remains a BIG YES.

I strongly belief the market is real. Though I also had a bitter version of the market due to improper information, but I learnt my lesson to always make enquiry before venturing into anything in this world. To see the best reward in the market you dont need to follow the multitude but follow good analysis.

i will track these points but will never believe untill you people answer the questions of those who strongly believe the market is not real and later this topic would be a mouthpiece to questions i received as regards the reality of the market so, express your points in order to reduce future questions.

@stockbull: What is your opinion? Is the market real? No one except you has expressed doubts about the market on this thread. So you need to either explain why you think NSE reports and earnings are not real??

Yes money can be made in the NSE and lose like any other gambling house. To be frank I see the NSE as another gambling house where they rob Paul to pay Peter.

99% of the ordinary investors don't have any stock knowledge they mostly rely on the advice of their broker on stock picks and mostly this broker lure you to their interest.

Let me not go through my bitter experience but it is a lesson well learn t

As for me the only Real earnings i can see on the NSE are the ones declared by Foreign owned coys listed on the NSE! I keep these shares for the long term! As for the Nigerian owned businesses.. I trade on them like most others on the NSE do..I dont try to keep the shares! its just in and out as fast as I can!

The coporate governance is still very poor and until people start going to jail for Creative accounting and Insider Abuse as is seen in most Nigerian businesses.. I dont want to believe all their earnings and buy their shares for keep!

I cant say for now it is real or not , Because i have seen scenarios where people loosed there money bigtime, also seen an NSE official lavishing money in the Casino in VI with peoples money based on whats on ground that's was some years back , But i cant say for sure i trust the capital market at such that ... with what we see from other capital market in the world .. in my own opinion i feel some of the stocks are fixtures .. the government is corrupt and there is not 100% guarantee that some of this listings are 100% sure .. I did rather advice if you could invest in Nigerian Breweries or GTB Stocks on FSTE 100 which is stable it would pay off more..the guy i referenced above is a top NSE official then .. he played tape to us whats happening in there and i think those fixtures are still in play..its not stable so use your tongue to count your teeth

As for me nothing is real about d NSE. †ђξ only tin dat is real is its existence. Lyk sm1 said earlier it is anoda gamble house, aπϑ 1 fact about gamble is dat d peson/owner makes a 1000 times more dan d players in it. D big guns wich includes d president of d NSE; alhaji aliko dangote aπϑ his cohorts, most of d major big companies are d beneficiaries/ profit makers, dey make a hell lotta money nd dey av structured d NSE 2 suit demselves, seriously as long as Dangote remains president of d NSE his fortunes will forever increase. aπϑ he knows d role d NSE plays in his wealth, dat was y he fought 4 d presidency by going all d way 2 court, 2 reclaim d position after he had bin earlier removed. Another big gun aπϑ sm1 very respected is d owner of falcons ltd, can't remember his name.

As 4 d masses, aπϑ most ignorant Nigerians d market is not real, its jst deceit, dey make u tink u A̶̲̥̅rε̲̣̣̣̥ making profit @ sm point aπϑ b4 u can say jack, all ur investments dissapears jst lyk dat. U A̶̲̥̅rε̲̣̣̣̥ d looser aπϑ dey make profits. Even with a good stockbroker its almost d same tin aπϑ don't be surprised majority of d stockbrokers, dnt understand d market only few wu knows aπϑ plays d game

In conclusion, I'll neva advise any1 2 invest in d NSE, I'll rada direct d peson 2 real estates, xcept if u av large capital with a very resourceful stock broker or if u ar investing 4 d long term purpose. As a mata of fact d NSE is not real!

NSE or not NSE, most stock markets are controlled to some certain extent by Big Money. By the phrase "Big Money" I mean huge investment houses with billions to invest and Big conglomerates whose earnings or projections can decide the direction in which the stock prices go. And thirdly before I forget, government. Government stability, investor friendly policies and also "f**k ups" affect the rise and fall of stock market valuation.

Big Investment Houses - It doesn't matter if it is the NSE in Naija or the NYSE, Venture capitalist and hedge fund managers sometimes have more power than they should and when they have interest in a stock, they ending up doing anything within their power to make sure the stock price stays up. Look at the recent collapse of the housing market in the USA. Is such a thing happening in the NSE? Of course it is. It happens everywhere, there are FAKE valuations and when the poor (most especially dumb people which also includes the rich) come in and invest half of their savings hoping to cash in on the growth, then the market collpases after the smart ones have sold to the new entrants and those "dumb" new entrants lose all their money.

Big Conglomerates - It has happened so many times in history, Enron, Worldcomm, Pamalat and I'm sure it has been happening in Nigeria only that they don't get caught or may be they get caught and the authorities turn a blind eye. Many Big companies have been caught red-handed changing numbers in their balance sheet and lying about profits and hiding losses. Such companies have FAKE stock valuations and when they get caught, the stock price collapses and sometimes such companies go bankrupt.

So, how do you know if a company could be lying? When the profits continue to grow while market conditions get worse. For example, if the government cuts number and cost of road construction projects by more than half in a year and a company that mainly does road construction government contracts comes out at the end of that year claiming a 40% rise in profits. If you are wise, you won't put your money in the company.

So now, to answer the big question "Are Nigeria Stock Market Reports And Earnings Real?"
My answer is NO, they can't be 100% real and depending on the magnitude of hidden corruption in the stock exchange that we may or may not know about, reports could be from 5% to 30% not real.

Should You Invest in The Nigerian Stock Exchange?
Why not. Just make sure you are smart enough to know what's happening. NEVER NEVER put your money in something you don't understand.

Can You End Up Losing All Your Money In The Nigerian Stock Exchange?
Yes You Can smiley I myself have lost money in the stock game with all the reading I have done. It is a risky business, but you can play safe by looking for undervalued company stocks and investing for the long term. Leave stock flipping to the experts wink

The NSE is very real. I lost funds in the market crash of 2008/2009 but that have not made me pessimistic about the stock market. It is still a veritable source of creating, storing and transferring wealth despite the numerous challenges like "doctored" reports, corporate governance issues, unstable government policies, etc.

The market is not real...those bull and bear, market capitalisation and shares sales on daily basis are all ruse...they are just make believe window dressing to hoodwink people...if you want to know what i am talking about..apply for a particular shares of a company quoted in the exchange through your stock broker..they will tell you that it is avalaible, but check the dailies..you will discovered that they were traded...who then sold and bought these shares..is it a ghost market, operated by ghost stockbrokers in a ghost economy...

This is a very interesting and valuable discursion and as such I wish every contributor writes with authority or near -to it on this and not with hear-say . This is a course to lifting or down casting of someone .

It used to be real until five years ago. No now, I don't have the mind of doing business with them again. I lost a lot of money.
