NINETY-YEAR-OLD Mrs.
Egbeshire Otovwievwie, was
released after spending six
nights in the den of the
kidnappers, who seized her
from her Oviri-Olomu
residence in Ughelli South
Local Government Area of
Delta State, last Friday.
The five-man kidnap gang
had demanded N50 million
for her release, but when the
money was not forthcoming,
they reduced the ransom to
N10 million on Wednesday.
Mrs. Otovwievwie, mother of
national Vice Chairman the
National Union of Petroleum,
Energy and Natural Gas
Workers, NUPENG, and a top
official of Nigeria Gas
Company, NGC, was released
at Okuodiete community in
Okpe Local Government Area
on Thursday morning.
It was not known if ransom
was paid, but a community
leader said, “The kidnappers
called the son that the
woman has been released at
Okuodiete this morning
(Friday). The son in turn then
called community leaders
who went to pick her.”
Another source, however
said, “They dumped the
woman on the road side and
the community leaders who
went to receive her drove
her straight for admission in
a private hospital in Agbarho
for treatment.”

Ogbon, Ogoni-Oghoro I, was
joyous over the
nonagenarian’s release. His
words, “This is good news, I
am happy that the woman
has regained her freedom, I
am happy that she was not
hurt too.”
