Member representing Jos South/Jos East constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Bitrus Kaze, has said the idea of granting amnesty to Boko Haram is the most awkward policy ever contemplated by any government in the history of Nigeria. He described the rejection of amnesty offered the group by President Goodluck Jonathan's administration as "humiliating, indescribably sickening and ridiculing." The lawmaker in a statement in Jos on Saturday, said, "In my honest view, granting amnesty to remorseless and unrepentant terrorists is weirdest policy ever contemplated by any government in the history of Nigeria. "I am not sure any government has suffered so much ridicule since Nigeria's independence. Our national pride and sovereignty is being eroded by inconsistent statements and policies which are antithetical to our security and collective well being." He added that the pro-amnesty pronouncements
and efforts so far by the government to appease
the group "have been completely rubbished by the intended beneficiaries of the programme themselves; they have continued in their uncurbed destructions of lives and properties of innocent Nigerians virtually on a daily basis." He wondered how a government with any sense of responsibility could contemplate appeasing a group that has been terrorising and killing innocent citizens without provocation.
