I am advised by some mechanic to do d old method of engraving my reg. Number all over my 2002 honda accord ...glass, chasis, interior, rims etc, in order to deter thieves or increase the likelyhood of recovery if ever stolen.

IS ENGRAVING A GOOD IDEA?
ARE THERE DISADVANTAGES?
HOW REALLY DOES IT AFFECT RESALE VALUE?
IS IT INEFFECTIVE IN ANYWAY?
WILL IT REALLY PUTOFF MODERN CARTHIEVES?

I ask this question because because 13 different models of toyota/honda brands have been snachted at gunpoint in my neighbourhood, in less than 6months. Same pattern of robbery and all between 8-9pm. Non ever traced or recovered. Its very rampant all over Jos though

Interesting, but How can it be wiped off?
We are not talking just robbers, these are specialist thieves looking for specific cars, probably for waiting-buyers, who wont like anytrace on the car , imo

yes, go ahed and engrave it...u gat nuthing to loose.....most robbers who dont hv time to start chaning glass etc dont like cars with the nos engraved boldly on the body/glass

It does'nt matter whether u engrave or not, if it the type they are looking for they will steal it. My Toyota Corolla was stolen (removed from where i parked it in the church) November last year and it was fully engraved with steering locked. Tracking is the best when it comes to armed robbers snatching vehicle at gun point.

armed robbers actually left my friend's car because it was engraved!!! They were so bitter it was engraved. In fact he had to lie that he bought it that way when they asked him why he had engravings all over the car......@op, go ahead and engrave your car abeg!!

This is very strange! Steering-locked yet stolen in public? How come?


Engraving is a great idea. The robbers would be frustrated if they descover it.
