Malam Bala Adamu, who spent 43 years on hospital beds, died on Wednesday at the age of 72, according to a source at the Yusuf Datsoho Memorial Hospital in Kaduna.

“He died around 12 midnight on Wednesday,” the source said. Late Adamu, Weekly Trust gathered, was one of the victims of the famous Langalanga train accident which happened near Maruwa in present day Benue State in 1970.
In the train which was carrying hundreds of passengers from the North to southern part of the country, over 80 persons lost their lives. Late Adamu was one of the few survivors of the accident.
From the scene of the accident, he was taken to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) in 1970. He sustained a spinal cord injury which made him unable to stand on his feet.
Our correspondent gathered that Adamu spent 35 years at the ABUTH in Kaduna. When former President Olusegun Obasanjo moved the ABUTH in 2005 to Shika near Zaria, he was transferred to the Yusuf Dantsoho Memorial Hospital in Tudun Wada, Kaduna South Local Government Area.
Confirming the death of Adamu, Chief Matron of the Hospital, Malam Shehu Makarfi said Adamu died last Wednesday. He said the deceased was buried at the Tudun Wada cemetery on Thursday around 2.pm in accordance with Islamic rites.
“We have buried him and many people attended the burial but we could not get his family, because we don’t have their contacts,” he said in a telephone interview yesterday. http://weeklytrust.com.ng/index.php/new-news/12328-kaduna-s-oldest-patient-dies-after-43-years-in-hospital
