Tukur’s Planned Visit To Osun Stirs Up Controversy

The proposed visit of the National Chairman, Peoples
Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, to Osun has been
enmeshed in controversy.
Tukur, investigation revealed, is set to visit Osun State next
month in the bid to rally support for the party in the South-West
ahead the 2014 governorship election in the state.
The visit was billed for discussion at a stakeholders' meeting of
the party, which was held at the party's secretariat in Osogbo on
Sunday.
Osun State Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, several chiefs
and two governorship aspirants - Chief Iyiola Omisore and Alhaji
Fatai Akinbade - attended the Osogbo meeting.
However, some stakeholders of the party in Osun, who are
aggrieved by the removal of former Governor Olagunsoye
Oyinlola as national secretary of the party, have voiced their
disagreement with the proposed visit by Tukur.
It will be recalled that the Osun PDP faulted the removal of
Oyinlola from office as national secretary.
While some members of the party frowned on the visit, some
urged aggrieved members to forget the past.
A PDP leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, on Sunday,
said, "Why have they chosen Osun to hold their rally? Why don't
they choose any other South-West state after all they did to
Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola? They should reinstate Oyinlola as
national secretary before coming to Osun for a rally.
"They want to rub salt into injury; that's why they have chosen
Osun. We don't like the way they have treated Oyinlola because
Oyinlola remains the leader of the Osun PDP."
During his seven and a half years rein in office as governor,
Oyinlola was the leader of the party in Osun during an era in
which PDP members represented the state in the House of
Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate.
The 30 local governments of the state were fully controlled by the
PDP before the pronouncement of a Court of Appeal sitting in
Ibadan terminated Oyinlola's regime by pronouncing Mr. Rauf
Aregbesola of the Action Congress of Nigeria as winner of the
election.
