The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill and to destroy. I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly. - John 10:10

In not so many words, Jesus summed up the mission of the devil (herein called the thief) on earth; he came to steal from mankind, as well as to kill and to destroy them. Now, this diabolical mission of the devil is not to be taken literally, as he does not just steal material things, neither does he merely snuff out the life when he kills, nor only just destroys tangibles. His assignments are far more horrendous than that.

For instance, in addition to stealing our asset; he also seeks to steal our peace, joy, harmony, virginity, conscience, rewards, attention, focus and so on. Moreover, he does not only kill someone physically – as if that is not bad enough – but, he also seeks to kill our dreams, enthusiasm, energy, moral, morale, passion, spirituality and so forth; while, his destructive mission also extends to our labour, marriage, testimony, plan, source of pride, harvests, environments, atmospheres, as well as our relationships with God, with spouse, and with others, among other things.

However, Jesus came to do the opposite. He came that we may have life instead of the death and destruction that the devil has in his kitty for us. Having courted death and destruction because of the disobedience in the Garden of Eden, Jesus came to offer Himself as the once-for-all propitiation to remove the death sentence on humankind by dying on the cross. There, He also took on the doom that was the lot of humans on account of the curse pronounced after the fall, by so doing wiping out the knell of destruction hovering around humans for sins committed.

Jesus came to do that much for us. But He forces the gifts He offers on no one. Only those who accept Him as their Lord and Saviour can benefit from His ministry, His offerings and His works. Will you?
