Hi there some confused people,

No such word as 'goodluck' exists, except on the birth certificate of the president of Nigeria; and on other documents that reference him. Even so, it always starts with a capital 'G' as all nouns are meant to.

'Good luck' on the other hand, is a full-fledged phrase, typically used to express your want for a successful outcome of an event to the partaker(s). Alternatively, it can be used as a device of sarcasm, to point out that an ambitious venture is not expected to have an auspicious outcome. (As in: "You want to jump off a 10 storey with a cape, hoping to fly? Good luck my friend!"wink

Don't be embarrassed though, even Google seems conflicted here, as a quick search of the definition of 'Goodluck' returns the result: "Someone who takes over power from his successors due to unprecedented events".
On a totally unrelated note, going by the above definition, the Nigerian president has either lived up to his name, or has had his name live up to him. Any which way, it's not a word that is likely to gain dictionary status any time soon, due to its scanty applicability.

Well, good luck discerning the distinction between 'goodluck' and 'good luck'.
