Don't Grant Amnesty To Boko Haram- UN Warns FG by fkaz(m): 9:51pm On May 05, 2013
The plan of the federal government to grant amnesty to members of the Boko Haram Sect received another big blow as the office of the United Nations on Human Rights yesterday maintained that members of the terrorist group do not deserve any amnesty.
The spokesperson for the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Rupert Colville , while briefing journalists in Geneva , said that the Commission has held that perpetrators of serious human rights violations, including by Boko Haram elements and members of the security forces, are heldaccountable, noting that amnesties are not granted to anyone responsible for very serious violations.
The spokesperson continued that: " Boko Haram has reportedly been responsible for kidnappings, killings and drive-by motorbike assassinations of civilians and politicians, members of government institutions, security forces and foreign nationals"
He also called on the Nigerian Government to abide byhuman rights principles during security patrols following reports that nearly 220 civilians were killed during violent clashes between military forces and the Islamist group Boko Haram .
“We are very concerned about the large number of casualties, reportedly including many civilians, and massive destruction of houses and property, as well as displacement that has taken place in over the past fewweeks in north-eastern Nigeria ,” Rupert Colville said.
“We call on the Government to make sure its efforts to achieve security are in full compliance with human rights principles,” he added, also urging security forcesand the military to respect human rights, and avoid excessive use of force when conducting operations, as the patrols stoked local resentment, especially when civilians were killed or had their property damaged.
The renewed calls are a response to incidents in Baga ,a town on the shores of Lake Chad in which fighting erupted overnight on 16 April and continued for days. OHCHR said the fighting was spurred by the killing of a soldier on a military patrol by the Islamic extremist group, Boko Haram which is based in the State.
Mr. Colville said that OHCHR welcomes President Goodluck Jonathan ’s commitment to hold accountable all those involved in the human rights violations perpetrated during the Baga attack, and urges the Nigerian government to carry out a “full and impartial investigation”
Secretary-General Ban Ki -moon said immediately afterthe attack that he was “shocked and saddened” by the civilian casualties and called all concerned to fully respect human rights and protect civilians.
“We repeat our calls for concerted efforts to tackle thecauses of the repeated outbreaks of violence in the north east of Nigeria and to put an end the cycle of violence and deadly reprisal attacks,” Mr. Colville added.
As part of an overall effort to stem the violence with means other than force, President Jonathan has established a Committee to work out modalities for an amnesty and compensation for victims, as well as to open talks with Boko Haram . OHCHR said it welcomes the establishment of the Committee as an “important step.”
It would be recalled that in last year, over 100 people were killed when the radical group attacked churches in Kaduna State, drawing widespread condemnation from the UN

UN shut the f.uc.k up. I don't want amnesty for boko haram but UN should mind their own business. Secure our borders and watch the movement of white and asian people in Nigeria. Monitor all calls to the all foreign countries. Scan your airspace periodically for alien radio waves and block satelite uplink from enemy nations that are slowly identifying themselves.

Omenka come and see

The dullardiho is even planning to negotiate with them.

"what signal is he sending the regular guy on the streets with such a decision? How do the victims of the violence get closure for the horrific tragedies that they might have witnessed? Some of them hand their wives, sisters, mothers, and daughters raped and killed in their presence!
It is only in Nigeria where you find victims being forgotten whereas the criminal and murderer is embraced, pardoned, and above all, COMPENSATED!! "

Can i ask why Bokoharam would want to negotiate with Nigeria when Bokoharam's aim is to cause as much death and destruction in Nigeria as is possible for a verity of reasons that we have all speculated on?

Nigeria should destroy Bokoharam full stop. They want to wear the trousers of death we should chook foot in the same trousers with them.

Every day, various news media is awash with frightening details of how innocent Nigerians are killed/maimed/rap.ed by the rampaging fulani invaders. I read recently that the government under Buhari is ready to negotiate with boko haram and it is no longer news that the end result might be amnesty for boko haram fighters who have brutally terminated the lives of thousands of innocent Nigerians for no justifiable reasons.

What will be the final solution to the fulani question in Nigeria?

We are all disturbed about boko haram because of their bombs but the truth is that the fulani invaders have probably killed more Nigerians than boko haram. The rate at which indigenous people of the MB are being killed by the fulani, it is a question of when not how they would eventually wipe out the MB people and occupy their lands. Buhari should tell us how he plans to manage his invading brothers who are hell bent on occupying the MB at all costs. I am inclined to believe that should they successfully finish off the MB people, their eyes would be set on southern lands for occupation as well. embarassed Already there are cases of attacks at different locations in the South where people are killed and women ra.ped.

For those supporting and calling for amnesty for boko haram I ask, what about the invading fulanis? Should Nigeria grant them amnesty as well to check their madness

Are the fulanis a special class of Nigerians? We see them openly brandishing riffles even AK 47s in broad day light and one begins to wonder when herdsmen now use AK 47s in rearing cattle. If an Igbo or Yoruba man is seen with a small locally made pistol even at night he would be immediately arrested by security agents and might languish in prison for ever but the fulanis move around with AK 47s and security forces look the other way. Which way Nigeria? They have become more fearless and bold in their attacks since Buhari took over power as President of this country.

Below are some links to read about the activities of the fulani invaders, they are so many but I just selected these few to paste here:

I wonder how a sane person will be calling for amnesty for boko haram. What are they fighting for? Anyone that also tries to do a comparison between the the Niger Delta militants and boko haram should be confined in a psychiatric hospital.
