The Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) was established in 1976 by the Interim Common Services Agency (ICSA). ICSA itself was established by the government of the old Northern Region of Nigeria to provide educational and social services to the people of the region. The first Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination (IJMBE) was held in 1977 for all students who had undergone the IJMBE post secondary education program in the existing schools of Basic/Preliminary studies which had replaced the HSCE.

The IJMBE is essentially an Advanced Level Examination, except for only two subjects offered at the ordinary level. The standard of the examination at both levels is equal to that of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) At similar levels. Successful candidates use the result to secure admission into 200-level in the University, through JAMB Direct Entry form.

Candidates for IJMBE are admitted as students by the affiliated colleges, for a year program. The writing of this examination signifies the end of the program. The total point is 16 but Most Universities require the candidates to obtain a minimum of 5 points to qualify for university admission at 200-level. Candidates are also required to obtain at least 5 ‘O’ level credits (including Mathematics and English) before they are admitted into the university, though awaiting result can also apply. Hence, it is our duties to prepare you for the exam particularly student seeking admission into universities in Nigeria and overseas. However, candidate shall offer three subject at a level class for instance, science student who aspire to read medicine, Biochemistry, Anatomy etc shall offer Biology, chemistry and mathematics, Social science student interested in Business administration, political science, sociology, economics, geography etc shall be given government, economics and business management (Note business management is just an advance commerce). Accounting or Banking and finance students must offer Account economics and Business management government in case where the students prefers government to Business management.
