David Beckham through his representative, announced today that he will retire from professional soccer at the end of the season.

The 38-year-old midfielder and long time captain of the English national team (2000 - 2006) is one of the few players who have played for top clubs in major leagues. He played for Manchester United (England), Real Madrid (Spain), Los Angeles Galaxy (U.S), AC Milan (Italy), and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) where he recently won the French Ligue 1 championship.

During his time with Manchester United, Beckham won six league titles, two FA Cups and one Champions League. He won the Spanish league title before moving to L.A Galaxy. He spent two loan spells at Milan and then returned to Europe when he signed with PSG.

Beckham is credited for putting the U.S. Major League Soccer (MLS) on map with his 2007 move to L.A Galaxy where he won two MLS Cup titles.

On the field, he will be remembered for his ability to take free-kicks and bend the ball.
