The judge might be right; rather than waste the court's precious time and spending more than N1,040 prosecuting the said man. It's probably the best judgement in the circumstance.

It amazes me these how every issue is now all about ACN, APP, PDP n the likes.
@ Tigerhead, what has ACN got to do with a thief being sentenced to flogging by a Magistrate Judge?
Let's be careful how we are turning every issue political ... 2015 would be war-free whether you mad politicians like it or not.

At least this is better than 40 years imprisonment or lynching .
So when is Tinubu going to be caned?

THE PUNISHMENT IS VERY DESERVING. It is better than clogging up our prisons with petty thieves. The police should be empowered to flog them publicly with at least 100 lashes to serve as deterrent. Kudos to the judge.

So you mean he should rather be praised and thanked for stealing. Do you even understand his comment at all? May be you need to go through it once again.

Very funny judgement.
Re: Man Caned For Stealing In Ibadan by coolheed: 1:01pm On May 17, 2013
The judgement appears fair considering the circumstances and the rationale stated by the judge. The keywords here are "deterrent" and "waste of time"". Although the thief has returned the money but he needs to be thought a lesson that stealing is NOT an acceptable behaviour in the society. Moreover, others also need to learn from this and that is one of the benefits of the law.

It is illogical for the judge to say that "after all there are corrupt government officials who have not being prosecuted, let this man go away". This will only compound our problem and "legalize" stealing. In addition, sending him to jail over that small amount of money will sound like using a sledge hammer to kill a fly.

God is the best of all judges and I do not say that this judgement is perfect but it appears to be fair and correctional in nature.
