The Federal Government on Wednesday released the names of 1200 young women entrepreneurs that emerged winners of the second batch of the Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria YouWIN, business plans competition.

YouWIN National Coordinator, Supo Olusi, said in Abuja, that the winners drawn from the six geopolitical zones in the country, emerged from an initial 65,000 applications received from interested prospective beneficiaries. He said 6,000, who met the initial cut mark were selected for the final two legs round before the final selection of the eventual winners.

The Federal Government had dedicated the second cycle of the competition supervised by the Enterprise Centre of the Pan African University, Lagos, to young Nigerian businesswomen in a bid to boost their entrepreneurial profile and empower them to be business owners able to cater to the other aspects of their family lives.

According to Mr. Olusi, the winners had demonstrated dedication and commitment in their proposals, adding that he was convinced that “this crop of young Nigerian women would do their gender proud.”

“They would also do Nigeria proud and I am sure they will, through the many jobs they create, help this administration achieve its vision of bringing down the rate of unemployment in Nigeria,” he said.

YouWiN, launched on October 11, 2011 by President Goodluck Jonathan, was designed to help identify young Nigerian entrepreneurs with bankable businesses or business ideas as a way of promoting the effort of youth towards job creation and entrepreneurship

Designed to produce 1,200 winners per cycle, these winners are to be given by the Federal Government to enable them either strengthen or set up their own businesses to help bring down the population of Nigeria’s unemployed youth, while also ensuring that Nigerian businesses apply world class standards in their operations.
