Governor Orji vows to raise school enrollment in Abia state

Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji has vowed to do everything humanly possible in order to increase enrollment into primary, secondary and university levels in the state.

According to the governor, children are the greatest asset of the Nigerian nation, and that as leaders of tomorrow, they must be effectively groomed.

Governor Orji said his administration would ensure that good healthcare, quality education and adequate food security are provided for the Abia children.

The governor, who addressed the children at the Umuahia Township Stadium as part of the 2013 Children’s Day Celebration, also assured them that the government would provide enabling environmental for every child to achieve his/her God given talent.

Chief Orji urged Nigerians to collectively build the culture of peace, love and enduring security by promoting handwork in order to ensure that the children do not derail in future.

He said that Abia state Government has always had good programmes for the children. “My administration is committed to making sure that our children grow in an environment of peace, love, and stability. Our nation in many areas has been under enormous security pressure that endangers the lives of children, women and vulnerable members of the society”, Governor Orji said.

Orji also stressed on the need for everybody to give priority to the rights and privileges of the child, irrespective of creed and tribe.

He said that there was need to ensure that children were protected from injuries and unnecessary deaths.

According to him, the civic responsibility of every individual is to report all suspicious activities to security agents, pointing out that the government would do its own part by guarantying the safety of all, including children.

“Already, Abia has signed and ratified the United Nations conventions on the rights of the child, and has also ratified the AU charter on the rights and welfare of the child.

“We will continue to domesticate all these conventions and treaties to ensure the rights of children are fully realized, especially the right to education”, the governor had declared.
