Northern youths under the auspices of the Arewa Youth Forum, AYF, yesterday warned the 19 state governors in the region to stop supporting President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 presidential ambition.

In an on-line statement by the AYF National President, Alhaji Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu, the group accused the northern governors of oiling their personal political interests ahead of the 2015 elections, rather than tackling the hardship being faced by the people who voted them into office.

The statement urged the governors to immediately put their house in order and forget about the politics of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, NGF, to fast track the unity and socioeconomic development of the north as leaders of the region.

The statement reads in part: “It is time to forget whatever problems that arises from the controversy of the NGF and work for the development of the people.

We are also pained that in the midst of all these, President Jonathan has continued to implement the amnesty programme for youths in the Niger Delta region, while youths in the north have nothing to show as dividends of democracy.

“President Jonathan is busy developing the Niger Delta while our own leaders are fighting over themselves to support him; this is not good at all. We say enough is enough.

“We expect the governors to be bordered about how the state of emergency declared in the region is been prosecuted, how are the ordinary northerners feeling the pains?

The governors are also to monitor the state of emergency to make sure human rights violations are minimized, but they are not doing this; our leaders are fighting for their interests in 2015, the time to act is now before it is too late.”
