A total of 1046 women die in every 100,000 births in Zamfara State, State Team Manager of the Partnership for Reviving Routine Immunization in Northern Nigeria, Maternal New born and Child Health Dr Sani Dahiru Abubakar has disclosed.
Speaking at the flagging off of Community Based Service Delivery in collaboration with state ministry of health, Abubakar said the north has the highest rate of maternal and infant mortality rate with Zamfara recording the highest cases.
He highlighted three major problems causing maternal and infant mortality which include husband’s refusal to allow their wives go for pre natal care, lack of accessibility to the available health facilities among others.
They had demonstrated community based service delivery in six villages of Nahuche in Bungudu local government area of the state in 2012 where they had good results in which they recorded the increase of about 657 women attending pre natal care and 294 deliveries in health facilities, he said. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/index.php/news-news/56347-over-1000-zamfara-women-die-in-every-100-000-births
