I did this in high school and was fun. Their age is the best to learn now.

Did you get the consent of these kids' parents/guardians before putting their pictures online?

I'm a photographer and they were in a public place and it's okay if I take their pics without consent but out of courtesy and the fact that they are Minors, I had to ask the permission of their trainer since their parents were not around and he consented.

Taking photos of people is allowed almost anywhere with the common sense exceptions of washrooms, change rooms, courts in session etc.
A model release is necessary if the photo is used to promote a product or for advertising purposes. Otherwise, it can be used, displayed, published for any editorial or artistic purpose.

I really understand your fears as Mothers and I really appreciate y'all took time to point that out.
Hope I've answered your questions?

@Tochiphotos. Thanks for the answer. You mentioned that taking photos of people is allowed anywhere? By who? Personally, I'd be mad(to say the least) at any random photographer taking snap shots of me or mine without my consent not to mention splashing it on any public space. Please tell me more. Photographers have this free license?

^Get over it. There is nothing wrong with taking pictures in a public place especially as the photographer has not tried to commercialise the photos.

Are you on Instagram?

OP is commercialising the photos - you can see his company logo on each of the pics

in the west he could get in serious trouble for this - i believe its almost against the law to take pics of minors - [pedo watch and all that]

Yep people would call the police ASAP if they see a man clutching a camera aand taking pictures around where young kids are playing

People have been questioned by police just for clutching cameras around parks where kids play and they were not even taking pictures. If my daughter celebrates her birthday in school I cant even take pictures of the other kids except I get a written consent from.all the kids parents

While I agree that photographers do have rights, I disagree with your logic / reasons behind what you've done.

There is something called 'chance appearance' or unintentional appearance of people appearing in your shots. Forgive me, but I can't remember the exact term it's called. However, what we have here is you not only taking pics of minors and placing these pics on the WWW for all and sundry to see, you've actually zoomed in on them, meaning you know exactly what you're doing. Take a look at this excerpt below:

"...There's nothing stopping you taking pictures of people in public places within reason, but if you start shoving your zoom lens up their nostrils or taking action shots of their every step, there's a chance you might get a clip around the ear from your aggrieved subject or possibly face a legal charge of harassment or breach of the peace..."

Trust me, if I were the parent of one of those kids, especially the light-skinned one, you'll get more than a clip around the ears from me. I would instigate legal proceedings against you and press for the most severe charges possible.

Wow! You guys are still on this matter? Seems y'all choose to ignore the part I said I was given the go ahead by their trainer? Please guys I'm here to post fine art pictures and I hope you guys just look and appreciate it and not showing off your pseudo intelligence in all matters as majority of nairalanders are known for. Thanks.

Erm, when kids are involved you might want to assume a less aggressive tone. It is very easy for your intentions to be mistaken to be malevolent. My advice, close this thread, retire your NL handle and emigrate to Uzbekistan where you will assume a low profile as a baker. . . Do it for the kids. This photography thing might land you in a lot of trouble.

Is the trainer authorized to give such permissions?

The trainer has been authorized to do one thing only, teach kids to rollerblade.

If i found that my kids school had posted pics of my kids on the net there would bé big trouble

if the parents of any of those kids see these pictures, the fellow will bé in big trouble. You are equally setting yourself up, posting pictures with your logo on them. In this day and age a parent could accuse you of being a kidnapper casing potential victims.

All this bravado about the right to take pictures of private individuals and publish same and claim copyright is asking for trouble.

I hang around cad forums and i remember this one time an architect was complaining about the challenges in finding child models for architectural visualisations. He had designed a beach resort and needed families in the renders.

The ensuing conversation made it clear that Photographing kids is a very big deal in civilised climes.
