USA has demonstrated that it has no regards for its international allies under President Obama. He has visited Africa once and boycotted Nigeria and plan to do so again. Consequent to this, Nigeria has decided to look elsewhere for friendly countries ready to do business with Nigeria.

The Nigerian President is set to visit China and Russia during Obama’s visit to Africa to welcome investors from both countries to Nigeria in the near future. China in particular will be investing heavily in the critical sectors of Nigerian economy within the third quarter of the year.

America, observed the indifference of the Nigerian government over Obama's visit and frantically sort to explain why Nigeria is not on the list of the countries to be visited. It appears that the explanations have fallen on deaf ears since Nigerian President will visit China and Russia while President Obama is in Africa. America is making diplomatic push to manage the perceived slight on Nigeria and to persuade Nigerian government not to embark on the state visits.

You may also recall that Nigeria was recently endorsed by the AU to vie for the non-permanent seat in the UN. “The endorsement by African ministers of Nigeria’s candidacy was a confirmation and endorsement of Nigeria’s track record of performance as far as international diplomacy was concerned. The AU Ministers endorsement of Nigeria for the position is coming on the heels of similar support by the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS. The development means that the country would be the sole candidate from the continent in the election scheduled to hold in October this year”.
Though Nigeria will require two thirds of all UN members to be elected into the council, it is speculated that this fit can be achieved with or without the support of America because of the friendly posture of Nigeria’s foreign policy core.

President Obama has demonstrated a high sense of resentment for Nigeria since he took office on frivolous grounds of insecurity and human right abuses effectively jeopardizing age long relationship that America has built with Nigeria over the years.

President Obama should take his resentment for Nigeria and stick it to where the sun don't shine.
If countries like China and Russia are willing to have friendly international relations with us, what else do we need the Us for?
It's their loss.

Obama wants to be the black don of the world, so feels very uncomfortable embracing Nigeria, the most powerful black nation on earth. He feels more comfortable in smaller countries like Senegal and Tanzania where his 'primacy' is unchallenged.

What did he do ? Where were you when Yardua snubbed Obama and the UN but allied with china and Russia ? International politics is not about harbouring enemity as he's doing to Amaechi, just pursue your goals according to your foreign policy.Sometimes you still need an alliance with your enemy.

You don't need to hate the US for pursuing her foreign policy and excluding Nigeria from it !

Well goodluck with that. Nigerians don't care too. Mind you this is about two countries and our pride. Jonathan is our President and we will stand by him in days when our friends discard us with whimsicality....

It is not a personality thing, so GEJ doesn't really come in to it. It is a Nigeria thing. Nigeria represents genuine black power outside Obama's sphere of control and influence, and that makes Obama resentful. Oh, and countries like China, Brazil, India, et al ARE falling over each other to invest in Nigeria, so you should keep up with the news.

Ameachi is the one looking for trouble... Ameachi does not understand transboundary EEZ languages and mapping that is why he is bold to express his ignorance on Oil wells being taken away from his state. There are globally accepted standards of boundary demarcations and Rivers will have to pay for enjoying what has never been theirs before its offshore borders where ratified with its' neighbors. Ameachi is just ignorant and he has found bliss in it.

Nigeria does not Hate America, but that country needs to reciprocate our friendly gestures and not take us for granted.

but they have cut the qty they buy from us since Obama... citing shale gas development in North America as a reason. Most of Nigeria's earning comes from south east asia in the last one year bro.

With the immense potential we weild as a nation, even the U.S.A, UK, Germany and the likes should also be falling over themselves to get a piece of the Nigerian handshake......... With those Countries you mentioned, i wouldn't be too sure if its "Investment" or "Exploitation" that's the underlying motive for extending the hand of friendship to us......... Ratan Tata, an Indian industrialist bought the Jaguar/Land Rover automobile company and used his influence over it to develop their local automobile industry. Chinese Companies do the same to pool information and technical skills into their home industries. We have a lot of individuals that can afford to do the same here but aren't. As long as we keep expecting hand-outs, Nations like the U.S.A that are supposed to respect us will keep acting funny towards us.

Haven't we been thoroughly used by the western countries you mentioned since colonisation? What have they done for us? Shell, Chevron etc come in here and mess our environment up and take resources from here to their countries!!!. Who pays attention to CSR in Nigeria? The environment in the Niger-Delta is an eye sour!!! All these years of exploitation and nothing has changed. Who need a hand shake with 3k pounds visa country or resentful President of a supposed free country. China at least has put a win win capitalist proposal on the table which the government do not have qualms with.

They were able to exploit us with our permission. Our leaders gave them the right to. For every foreign Company that exploits this Country, someone is getting paid and others are paid to look the other way. Until we sort this out within ourselves, the same thing will continue to happen regardless who we align with. Eg. DSTV operates on the "Pay as you go" plan in S.A but its the opposite in Nigeria. It helps them rip-off Nigerians and trust me, there are certain Nigerians collecting their cut up there for making it possible.....Let me add this, during the Slave trade era, it was actually leaders that sold slaves to the whites. They went on slave raids to exchange them for guns and other foreign goods etc. I'm yoruba but even those glorious Wars fought degenerated into Slave raids.

Cost of doing business in Nigeria has always been high. DSTV in SA does not deal with power failure or generator to power up its bases in SA but in Nigeria they do. Our laws governing international businesses in Nigeria can add up to many overhead cost. It makes more sense for a company like dstv to go on monthly plan package for its subscribers in Nigeria in order to manage risk and be assured of its receivables.

Now coming back to countries exploiting us, yes people in power and positions of authority may have foolishly sold this country in the past for kobo, I can tell you most of that has changed. New laws and policies are shaping Nigerian business environment like the local content act which requires up to 60% of contracts given out in the Petroleum Industry to be awarded to local companies by IOCs and other major players. This way, proceeds and knowledge remain within our shores. So things can change and all these things began in less than two years ago

Regardless of who we align with, we will always be treated the way we treat ourselves. You need to see the way the Chinese treat our local workers and how much they're paid to understand that they're not really as nice as you think.

We need to unbundle capitalism and the capitalist man. We all make investment with the hope to make xyz from it. Now, as a business person, once you have defined what you are putting in or getting out, you will search for resources that fit within your budget. Thus, when you talk about the way Chinese companies treat Nigerians in Nigeria, you fail to realize that the staff those companies seek are staff who can earn the lowest salaries under harsh conditions in order to maximize profit. Now you are not going to blame the Chinese for Labor Unions not doing their job. What we as a people must do, is to put laws in place that limits exploitation of fellow humans, that is the only reason why working conditions in the western world appears different; Laws.

This's what i have been clamouring for all-along.
We should stop this unnecessary affection for america and look elsewhere.
The future is not america anyway,so i think we will do well to look beyond them.

what it means is that Nigeria will become indifferent to america.
We will just restrict our relationship with america to essential trade.
They will probably have to search for another ally to help them in their unnecessary and paranoid "war against terrorism in the african continent", which will be very hard as southafrica the only viable subsaharan nation already belongs to the BRICS.
