Hey OP,I would like to throw in my 2c into the discussion.
By way of very brief introduction, lets just say I am someone who knows a bit about this kind of topic because I have been mentoring (outstanding) students in IT for more than a decade, and have mixed with students/developers, plus, I have viewed close-up a number of start-ups (not necessarily Nigerian ones).

I am afraid some people may misinterpret my comments so, lets get this clear up front: I am not discouraging you. I think it is great to have passion, and follow your dreams. I love creative people (I am a top-few-percentiles creative myself), so I can relate to your situation (and by the way, this means I also know a few dark secrets about the creative mind; it's usually undisciplined, leading you to think choosing not to do the "boring" right thing is okay, whereas you're simply not being disciplined),

However, I think there is a fundamental mistake you are making: you should face your education first. No, I'm not saying you should stop developing apps. Yes, I am saying you should CUT the time you spend on apps. You should focus on your academics because that is the only way you can fulfill your potentials. Any really creative endeavor is like building something complex from Lego bricks. The quality of what you can build depends on the quality of "Lego" bricks available to you. University education gives you far more sophisticated Lego bricks than any single person alone cam come up with. Why? It's the collection of "Lego" bricks from all the smartest minds in that area in history. Sure, you're a talented guy, but how are you going to do better than a guy is is just as talented as you are, but has gone through 4 years of a Computer Science BSc? That guy has learnt all the solid algorithms and ideas that computer science geniuses developed over the last few decades. Do you know what a lazy algorithm is? A greedy algorithm? I am sure you know a bubble sort. Note: I am not a CS guy, and these are the simplest algorithms in the world. There are hundreds more, and hundreds of important principles (spectral analysis? digital image processing? etc) that if you took time to learn, you would dramatically improve the quality of your "Lego" blocks.

You said "i thought of something that is needed in the society". I don't want to discourage you, but one of the things a university education gives is the ability to truly understand problems and cast them in a way that makes them amenable to solution. Smart as you may be, with the insight of hundreds of years of scientists and engineers which you get in university, you will better able to grapple with the problem of what is needed in society. Without those insights, you will know the problems, but your understanding and the solutions you propose might tend to be simplistic.

A major problem that leads talented people astray is cases like Bill Gates and other who dropped out of school. They seem to be "proofs" that all you need is talent and drive. Actually, to be really successful, you need talent, drive, discipline, luck, and a strong understanding of the fundamentals of the area you want to operate in (better obtained in school; can be obtained out of school, but takes many years in any case). Talent can help you start a good idea. However, a talented and well-trained CS guy will copy and better your solution in a heartbeat.

Sorry I am getting a bit off-point, but this is a very big topic, and I am only attempting to advise you because I never want to see a brilliant guy go astray.

I suppose I should summarize my advise: please focus on your academics. If you are an "IDEAS" person, you will always have ideas. I often say that at any point in time, I have in my head, at least 4 ideas each of which someone can possibly make a career at. Discipline is knowing when to wait till you are best qualified (or have the time) to bring your ideas to like. Let this one slide, while you focus on wringing the most you can from the university.

infobiz9ja: Oh boy stop ranting if you want to sell it sell it & move on to better things. Facebook owner has about 50 patents to his credit but u don't hear him blowing his trumpet about it so my advise is sell it, finish waec with food grades then pursue a career in programming in the university. If your waec is good, there are a lot of scholarship opportunities abound so for now just face your studies.

Jisos! Nigerians r wicked!!

If he was your "brother", you'll be singing a different tune.

Do not sell your idea and work! Ignore the GraphicPlus or anyone attacking your work or person! In fact, killing an idea could be far more dangerous than killing a person - don't let anyone kill your idea. Also, you need to be honest for it appears your person is already being questioned that you are way older than 14! Do not dampen the enthusiasm of people who can help with LIES! Yes, some of us live the life of software and can be of help beyond giving a few thousand naira because ultimately you might need a lot of mentoring, advice and code reviews but with someone who is dishonest, their is no desire to even lift a finger! A lot of people who do things like that are really busy and do not have the time or desire to piss around!

So many mu(squared) in Naija...thank God for social media exposing the way we reason as a people with only a few exceptions.I now know why we are still where we are in Nigeria. We are a very gullible set of people. People, please be logical as i cannot imagine a 14-year old that is this talented and still go unnoticed in his secondary school. By now,he should be a celebrity in the school and the town at large..programming na beans?? Secondly,He got an iphone and it was stolen on the eve of the day he was supposed to sell it. Pray, where did he get the iphone from? My thoughts is that he probably should be able to get a laptop from the same source. A lot of things that do not add up in his story. Then again, i doubt if a 14 year old in Nigeria would be able to come up with a well articulated fund raising write up like the op's,although he supposedly a genius.Maybe some adults helped him sha...But then i may be the mu(squared) grin grin grin

GraphicsPlus:

I didnt say the OP said he wants to quit school. I was saying that young people have been deceived by sayings that some of the innovators dropped out of school. databoy247 referred to Kiyasoki, but I never said the OP should complete his education and get job. I actually liked his effort and skill, but he must not allow that to triple him. Let him focus on his education for now. There are lots of apps he's yet to develop.

Look at his comment: i meant i missed few classes for 3 weeks. Most of them i was there but my mind wasn't and others i was outside.

He was in the class, but his mind was not there. He's definitely playing with his education and somebody is so sentimental that he doesn't want to tell him. These guys after watching 'Social Network' movie, they will want to neglect some fundamentals. If he thinks that his idea is ground-breaking, let him tell his parents and with his parents, they should meet the principal of his school. The principal must have a way of getting any of these media houses to showcase what he has built. He may even get a scholarship, not a laptop. As long as I'm concerned now, the OP dont need a laptop to be coding his apps. He needs his education. @OP, go to your principal and explain to him that you've go a skill that must not be allowed to die. But everything still boils down to this: sell the app and focus on your education for now.

This guy should be banned from nairaland. It has been shown that he's a fraudster, and yet, some people that wants to play 'emergency philanthropist' are not even seeing beyond their noses. He has been exposed to be a student of Madonna university, yet, people are asking him to contact them. If you end up being duped, you have no one to blame. This Op ain't no 14 yr old kid, he is a big a** grown man trying to dupe people of their money. I'm worried that people are now trying to use NL to defraud others. With his type, those that are really deserving of help may find it hard getting help here.sad sad sad sad

I guess you are not in nigeria, my pastor (i can't even get to him) and principal cannot do anything.

@Graphicplus has said anything wrong, I would say thesame, if you can wait till second week of August (we all have financial obligations), I will send you a laptop (meanwhile attend classes and just be patient some of us have developed serious applications and the truth is, it cannot be so easy programming with a phone), so that people don't see programmers as something else..I remember the last time I commented on your post, it was like I killed some one...Just be good and close this thread

Coughs!
Story is catchy and touching. Well programmers are intelligent people, they think alot and do achieve alot also, i know this cos im a young programmer myself. Majority of programmers dont have a business sense, if you see one with a business sense, then hes a genius.
I wount say you are right or wrong to come here and ask for assistance, we nigerians do have a loving heart and do wish to help, but due to the increasing number of improved scaming ways, we try to confirm the story first before we buy it. SO the whole reaction about every reply is well said from the perspective of who have said it.

Now here is the main point, i have programmed for people in the bulk sms business line and i can confirm to you that there is alot of money in that field. You developed an app for mobile, that is intelligent, but would i care much about the mobile? Well i wont say no, but not really.
Good you have a website for the app. You can drive in income and become a millionaire thru it. You just need to see the right things.
The app you designed, you need to purchase units to use it, thats the same way the biggest bulk sms companies work also. I believe you developing a mobile app application is more difficult that a web application. Try and the same application to be web based, sell ur sms online rather than on phone, like the site with API's so people can subscribe to your site to power there bulk sms sites as well.
As a programmer, you have an advantage, you would keep developing your application to compete with biggest bulk sms sellers in the country.
I know you would say, you dont have a laptop. Fine, but there are cafe's and there are clouds where you could store your files on, or even usb sef.
Once in a while, you could purchase 100 time, try and code as much as you can, with time people at the cafe would get to know you and give you much time.
As it stands now, i cant verify if your story is true, the best i can give is an advice.

Now am starting to worry seriously about the future of this country, a situation were we can't even set up an institution to recognise talents and show them the way forward. There should be a centre where a kid like this can go, exhibit what he can do and all the necessary things he needed to grow will be made available to him. If a kid with such talent can't even have access to something so small as PC ( Personal Computer) then we are not making anyway forward yet.
This story remains me of my own predicament too during my final year project in school, the project was about solving the problem of election rigging in Nigeria using biometrics option, all I needed then was a set of touch screen computers or surface computer as it is called in computer terms, it was frustrating to the point that I had to reduce or should I say cut my cloth according to my pocket. Seriously we need to start thinking in this country, we need to put right our policy formulation system, we need to set an agenda for ourselves and know where we are heading. And one of our major problem is that we are relaying so much on an educational system that has failed in it entirety, where student don't even know the meaning of education or why they are in school.
