Lagos State First Lady, Dame Emmanuella Abimbola Fashola tasked pupils to be inquisitive in order to better understand what they learn in schools.

She charged the pupils during the official commissioning of Smiley Kids Montessori Mini Stadium, Sangotedo, Lekki Epe Expressway.

The stadium, called the BRF Arena, according to the First Lady is a beautiful playground for pupils to compete and interact.

She said that the pupils would need to ask questions on what they do not understand in order to maximize the use of the facility.

"This is a beautiful school that has got a beautiful playing ground. The beautiful thing about playground is that it will make you to understand how to compete and share love together. Always remember that in any competition, somebody will win and therefore, there should be no reason to fight at the end of the contest," she said.

According to her, children learn better when they ask questions. "Do not be disturbed about been able to take the first position in any examination but work harder and you will surely get it right. Do not keep anything that you do not understand to yourself. Ask your parents and your teachers. It is when you ask questions that you understand more. Pray for your parents, teachers and those in orphanages, those in hospitals so that God will bless you," she said.

In her welcome address, the pupils' representative, Miss Betty Otoyo commended the First Lady and her husband, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) for their roles in the development of education in the state.

She said, "We highly appreciate the step you took when you came here five years ago at the official commissioning of this school and now you are here again honouring us with your amiable self and a loving mother you are."

"We still remember vividly when the Governor of the State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola commissioned this school. This is part of the benefits we are enjoying during your tenure. For the legacy you have laid, we pray that the God Almighty will continue to protect you and your family, uplift you, strengthen you and guide you," she added.

Dame Fashola also gave words of advice to the parents, urging them to create parents forum where issues bothering them would be discussed and solutions provided.

"For parents, we should not shy away from our responsibility. Let us create a parent forum to make our society a better place. If we, the parents, will not shy away to say what is bothering us, then we will be creating a better place for our children," she said.

In his remarks, the Proprietor of the school said that the stadium would kick-start the plan of the management to commence a yearly football tournament where schools in Lekki, Sangotedo and Ajah will be competing for trophy while the winning team gets a cash prize of N100, 000, first runner-up, N75, 000 and second runner-up gets N50, 000.

"With this, we will be able to develop the skills at the tender age and subsequently we will also start a football academy where talents are discovered and developed," he noted
