kambo: google , which most industry watcher say is the most powerful tech company @ present (edged out microsoft years ago), isnt waitng for w3c to push thngs frwd, they're gunng for desktop dominance - they created d chrome browser, a version of javascript ,Darcs, and a powerful javascript tools,GWT, if cloud computg wins out, javascript will bcome the most important client side language, and d browser wud b d most important client side app after d operatng system. Google knows ths and is outfitting js with all d power necessary to bring it on par with other traditional languages.when we say, Write to disk, we dont mean stuff like cookies, server-sides, local shared objects, Ofcourse writing to disk has been around for years with java applets, actionscript File Reference etc all based on extended permissions. Since they are browser plugins, they obviously have access to the local file system via the web browser. It will be a real issue if javascript will access the file systems directly, then the future you keep seeing wont be safe. Seriously, you guys need to retire from this future future predictions, thats the way it has always been from the beginning of the world, this is 2013, give 2050, programming will be as easy for that generation it is for us checking our mails. We, the geeks of today will become old illiterates who can't use "whatever technology in place" at that time so let us quit hurrying. |

Tech time traveller Cloud computing, cloud everything. All I know is that technologies of tomorrow will make mockery of technologies of today. But don't let us not to forget to enjoy what we have now, while preparing for tomorrow. @OP I'll tell you something that's very sure, there is no silver bullet to technology generally, so don't believe everything you read on every tech site or book even from tech experts. Because smart guys are developing crazy technology from different part of the world, dont be surprise that the next giant tech company might be from Nigeria from Ajegunle of all place of all. So keep an open mind. |
