Ontisha Asaba movement:Why Muritala lost more Troope during the Civil at Onitsha

General muritala move Igbo from Onitsha to Asaba and he lost men for 8 days because biafra army were shooting at them when they were trying to save the children and woman before the bombing of onitsha. This is why Muritala later became head of state.

He was not in nigeria when the coup happen , but was on a flight from london during the coup. The pilot of the plane inform the coup plotter who had capture the airport that a general of the army wanted to speak to them so that the plane can land. They will have blow up the airplane if it was another general on board but because muritala saved igbo women and children from ontisha to asaba, he was remove from the mission because Gowon felt he was too compassionate and he was lossing many men because instance of bombing up the city. he was not, instead he wanted to move them from ontisha to asaba.

Ibrahim Taiwo one of the officers ,who lead the coup allow muritala plane to land and arrested muritala. but because he was the one who save igbo women and children from onitsha to asaba . And the coup plotters were mostly Yoruba men. And they needed someone who was a northerner to be head of state. His airplane timing made him the appropriate person to be president.

This is how the man who save Igbo children and woman at onitsha by moving them from ontisha to asaba during the civil war was made to become president of Nigeria. That is why he became head of govt. You can check the record if Muritala was not in london and abroad a flight when the coup was happening .
