Tackling Security Challenges In Delta State by comrodioodio: 4:24am On Jul 07, 2013

THE security of life and property is something nobody can toy with, especially government at all levels. Due to the fact that the world has become a global village, any threat to peace in any part of the world is now a threat to peace all over the world, because, if the security situation is not urgently tackled, its escalation may affect areas that never envisaged that such could affect them.
Delta State has had its share of security challenges, especially in the Warri axis and a lot of lessons have been learnt from that. That the state is peaceful today is due to democracy which made it possible for the true representatives of the people to be at the helms of affairs in the state.
While former Governor James Ibori restored peace in Warri axis, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s administration consolidated the peace and ha gone as far as taking Peace and Security as key agenda of his administration. Governor Uduaghan has, to a large extent, succeeded as there is  now peace in the state, not only in Warri axis, but inter-tribal wars have stopped, crisis in the creeks, reduced because of the amnesty granted Niger Delta militants by the Federal Government, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s administration has ensured that most of those who had interest in nefarious activities are gainfully engaged.
As such, the state is relatively safe, devoid of rancour and friendly for investment. A few days ago, there was a little disturbance in Warri North Local Government Area of the state which prompted Governor Uduaghan to convene a security meeting to look at what transpired.
At the end of the Security Council meeting, the Secretary to the State Government, Comrade Ovuozorie Macaulay, informed journalists that the situation had retired to normal in the Warri North Local Government Area and urged people to go about their normal duties. Comrade Macaulay, however, explained that certain measures had been taken to ensure that there is lasting peace in the area, emphasizing that speed boats made of two horse powers and above should not be seen on the water ways of the local government area.
According to the SSG, Warri North is peaceful and appropriate measures have been taken to ensure that the situation does not escalate. Comrade Macaulay also stated that movement of boats on the waterways had been restricted. He said that the Security Council condoled with those who were affected by the skirmishes, noting that Delta State is very peaceful.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikechukwu Aduba, who was with the SSG during the briefing, added his voice to the ability of security agencies to tackle security challenges in the state, stating that the police foiled an armed robbery operation in Asaba. He disclosed that the armed robbers were invited from Lagos and the person who invited them had been identified and, in the next few days, his building would be demolished to serve as deterrent to people with similar intentions.
Mr Aduba urged Deltans to go about their normal duties because when the armed robbers tried a surprise attack and were not successful, they cannot succeed again as the security operatives are prepared at all times to face any challenge.
Security is very important and as such, all Deltans should be involved in ensuring peaceful co-existence by giving relevant information to security agencies. We should encourage Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s administration that has invested heavily on security.
