Gov Rochas Shut Down Abia Line Transport Company Office In Owerri...read Details by thejurist: 8:43am On Jul 07, 2013
ABIA State has pleaded with its Imo State counterpart to consider rescinding its order for the cessation of the operations of Abia Line Network Transport Company at its current base along Wetheral Road in Owerri, Imo State capital, as reportedly ordered by Governor Rochas Okorocha in May 2013 during an unscheduled visit.

Chief Press Secretary to Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State, Mr. Ugo Emezue, told journalists yesterday morning that Abia State government was disturbed by the sudden order on the company to quit its operations at the base, especially according to him, as there was no prior notice to the company to vacate the place.
Besides, he said the efforts so far made by the Abia Line Company’s management to secure another base for its operations in Owerri were allegedly being frustrated by agents of Imo State government.

He remarked that the action of the Imo State governor was least expected considering that both states are brothers and that Imo State Transport Company operates unhindered in Abia State, adding that information reaching Abia State held that other mass transit companies operating in the same Owerri location were yet to vacate the base.

Emezue, also in the alternative, pleaded with Imo State government to allocate a suitable operation base for the Abia State Transport Company in Owerri, just as he said Abia State did for the Imo State Transport Company in Abia.
It was, however, reported that Imo State Information Commissioner, Mr. Chinedu Offor, had in reaction to the matter, explained that the order for Abia Line to vacate the base was to enable Imo State government implement its master-plan for the state capital to boost the aesthetics of the town, adding that the order was not issued to Abia Line alone.

Emezue pointed out that where that was the case though not so explained, those affected by the order would have been given humane notice and allocated alternative base.

General Manager of Abia Line Network Company (ALNC), Mr. Ugochukwu Uwaeke had, while briefing journalists in Umuahia, the state capital, on the matter, alleged that “agents of Imo State government have frustrated every effort made by the Abia company to secure another loading bay within the Imo capital.

“Abia Line in Imo State currently does not have a place to operate our business despite the fact that Imo and Abia states are brothers, even as Imo State Transport Company operates freely in Abia State”.

@Post

Is Gov Rochas trying to come up with his own transport company in Abia or why this sudden unnecessary action from him?

Rochas is a desperate man. He will soon cuase problem between Abia and Imo, a taboo in the eyes of those who understand the relationship between the two states.

What did Abians do to Okorocha? Why is he always trying to bring quarrel between brothers and sisters. He should not let his political ambition affect the citizens of the region negatively. Why would he ban Abia line to stop operation in Owerri while other transport companies are allowed to operate from the same packing lot where Abia line waas ejected. That is not fare

I dont know why Abia enemies are always out to bring it down but God has always been on our side, which is why we have been able to withstand any form of oppression. Yesterday a truck loaded with refuse was arrested in Aba, where they were discharging the refuse. Guess what, these truck came all the way from PortHarcourt to discharge its waste in Aba. That is not funny at all. But I don't think any sane man would litter a clean environment with dirt. If Abia has been clean and well kept before now, this wouldn't have happened.

This story is becoming so puerile and annoying.
Very very annoying.
It just pains me when you see this animosity slowly creeping in between two sister states.
A simple situation that can just be resolved with the application of common sense.
Well sha,
Common sense is not common,
Especially,
When you have a confused clown and a visionless non performing sittight manning the helm of affairs of the two states respectively.

Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has commenced inspection of major transformation projects in Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe towns to ensure their timely completion.

Last week, Governor Okorocha inspected the ongoing beautification of Wetheral road including the concrete cover built along drainage channels and dwarf fence being erected along same road.
He used the opportunity to warn traders to desist from exhibiting their wares in front of their stalls or face confiscation of such products. He also directed all landlords that own property along major streets in the cities to beautify their frontage by planting flowers and cleaning up all rubbish in front of their buildings and to change the old roofs of their buildings that portray a bad picture of the city.

Speaking further during the inspection visits, the governor announced his government’s decision to revoke any land within the capital city that is used for unauthorized motor parks and convert such to public parks, stressing that his government has revoked the land along Wetheral road now being used as motor park by Peace Mass Tranisit and Rivers Transport Corporation.

Also inspected by the governor last week, were the International Conference Center at the old IMO Hotel site, Akachi road spanning from St. Mulumba Catholic church at Wetheral road to Aba road (a dual carriage with concrete bridge across Otamiri river) as well as the dualization of Aba road from Emmanuel College, Douglas road junction to Naze junction. He said that these projects will be completed before November 28, and will be commissioned as part of the new IMO launch.

At the IBC compound in new Owerri, Governor Okorocha inspected the ongoing construction of an event center being handled by a Chinese firm, as well as the building of Evan Enwerem Studio now fully completed.

Concerning the roundabouts being constructed at Government House, Mbaise road junction, Control Post and Naze junction, Governor Okorocha said they are to give the new IMO a fresh look of international standard.
At Onitsha road, Governor Okorocha inspected a new major dual carriage road spanning from Onitsha road to Rapour Hotels, Orlu road/Amakohia junction.

He warned future developers to ensure that all structures must have the State government’s approval in line with the city development plan and design.

Do you think that Obama will wake up one morning to issue a degree against Chinese companies or their affiliates without due consultation with Chinese Government?

It was very wrong of Rochas to assume himself the position of God hence he was cut to size by T. A. Orji.

ITC makes more money than Abia Line in this symbiotic business relationship.

Rochas did not single out Abia line as claimed by Orji. Visit Wetheral road yourself to confirm the transformation and notice that there are no more illegal Parks there. Don't join the queue of misguided people. The Park was an illegal park used by various transport companies and all of them were stopped.

Remember there used to be an ITC park at Osisioma which was also closed by. Orji and turned into a recreation garden Park. I don't think Imo State politicized it as it was clear the place is better and cleaner.

Keep quite if you know nothing about business interest. Rochas wants to create a favorable competitive atmosphere for ITC in Imo State while enjoying free rides in other States.

Ohakim tried it on Rivers Mass Transit in 2006 and every ITC going to Port Harcourt were smashed before he resinded reallocated a conducive place for them.

Who is fooling who here?

Moreover, I live in Wetheral.

More space, better surrounding, improved security etc

So you prefer the park being a nuisance to road users. They should move to Nazi or Egbu. Owerri does not need to be like Aba.

I'm always amazed when you of all people think that Aba is a nuisance. Is it GRA, Ogborhill, Umungasi, Factory Road, Industrial Layouts that are dirty?

For your information, Aba Economy is built on two platforms.

1. Trade and Commerce

2. Industrial

It's only the commercial areas that tend to generate huge wastes that are not disposed properly that is causing the filtiness of those areas of which never received better outlook when it was with Imo State.

The Industrial Zones and GRAs are all fine and good with recreational facilities that Imo State may not possess.

Then on your question, I previously lived at Mbari Street beside Abia Line. There is no dirt or filth at the park and its not facing Wetheral per say.

They were also pursued from Egbu Road for that matter.

I never claimed Aba is the worst place on earth. Owerri is a different kind of city from Aba in every sense of it. About one-third of Aba in population and half the land mass, more of a civil service town and serene with little industrial and commercial activities.

Point of correction, large industrial Area and about three quarter of Aba is fine and good.

Never confuse yourself with all these internet rantings.

Remember, Aba is over populated by all of Us Igbos (it is the only town that unites us all together) and we will collectively make sure it success.

Tell Rochas and Orji to drown themselves if they cannot resolve this small issue amicably.
