Aregbesola creates 3,000 fresh jobs; establishes West Africa’s largest garment factory

Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State’s efforts at creating jobs and revamping the economy of the state has recorded another leap as no fewer than 3,000 fresh employment opportunities are on the way through the establishment of the best equipped West Africa’s largest garment factory due to take off in Osogbo in August.

Situated close to the State Secretariat, Gbongan road, the multi-billion naira garment factory which is a private initiative and the largest in West Africa with encouragement from the state government of Osun will employ at least 3000 people to be trained in stitching with modern machines.
Governor Aregbesola, in order to encourage the investors, Messrs. Sam & Sarah Garment Factory, to boost the sewing of school uniforms for public primary and secondary schools across the state’s 30 local governments, provided 6,000 square metres of land for the factory to take off in Osogbo and boost the state’s economy.
The land which the government provided along with other ancillary incentives made available to Sam & Sara to establish what has now become the largest garment factory in West Africa has been used to serve as the 14 per cent equitable holding of the State of Osun in the venture.
The project which equipment is largely financed by the Bank of Industry, BOI, to the tune of almost N1.5 billion is designed to produce 100,000 dresses per day.

Thumbs up to the Governor and to the people of Osun state. At least, that's minus 3000 people off the unemployment line, not to mention indirect labor...

This man just makes governance seem so easy and he's very progressive, celebrating his successes.

Other governments keep planning to build, hoping to build, partnering to build, starting to build, projecting to build but this man and other governors of th SW just keep commissioning and launching new projects

Good...more development spreading across the S/West...

Just like GEJ said..he likes coming to Ogun..since he comes mainly to commission one good project or the other..

S/W is progressing...

I doubt it. Yet, even the school uniform sector can be huge for this factory because specialisation may see other States approaching them as cost-effective suppliers for their school uniform needs. Most impressive is the creation of 3000 jobs. Like someone said earlier, Aregbesola is impressive because of his direct and hands-on style of leadership.

This is great. The only way the government can aid in job creation that is sustainable is to enable the right business environment (security, power, other infrastructure etc.) and provide the right incentives ( tax breaks, easy financing etc.) for private investors and businesses to exploit. Congrats to the Osun state government for working with the private sector to create jobs from industry and not the government hiring people randomly to perform tasks that are not needed. smiley

Can you simply comment on the topic instead of quoting other posters directly with irrelevant, incendiary and b1tchy barbs that will only attract similar comment and derail the thread? Seriously, your antics is the sort ruining the user experience here.

Simple , yet brilliant.use government spending and resorces to stimulate private enterprise. If the government is buying a million unit of stationery , get a smart business man to establish a factory to supply the needs of the state and populace.
Better than the rampant importation of finished good which can be manufactured locally.
Ignore that dross above.

Indeed. Job creation, for a nation like Nigeria, will be commensurate to the efforts government puts in because of how so much is lacking. Government has to incentivize potential employers of labour.

Don't forget that this is not a government scheme entirely. Aregbesola has acted mainly as an enabler. This is still a private venture with investors who will work hard seeking profit and to protect what they have put in too. Aregbesola and Osun have done their part.

This is d part that most of d ACN Propagandists above won't want to emphasize- d BOI is d main Financial, hence Enabler, of dis factory project. This same Bank of Industry (BOI), d FG's Industry Bank, that was virtuali comatose b4 GEJ almost tripled its Capital base and revived it and which d Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) recently said was becoming a Main source of financing for Middle and Smallscale Industries within d last 2 years; this Bank is THE Financier and Enabler of d project, yet all we hear here is 'Aregbe dis, Aregbe dat'. In fact, I can bet dat this project also has other imprints of d Min of Trade and Industry's recent Quest for actualising AGOA's Garment goal, esp if one of its Parastatals (BOI) was dis involved.... Am all for noting d appreciable input of d host state here (as it should be) in providing d right environment and even investing in it, BUT to mk it look as though this is Aregbe's effort alone (HE is building d biggest factory in WA, HE is providing 3000 jobs, blabla bla..) and completely refusing to acknowlegde d Roles playd by others (who may even be more important) is a LIE buoyed by Deliberate DISTORTION of facts, concorted by a Gang of Propagandists led by their Resident Chief here (he knows himself)..... BOTTOMLINE: This Great development is been undataken by a PRIVATE COMPANY, who has be assisted appreciably by both d host State Govt and d FG, and of course, by d host community- a Colla that we hope to see more often in 9jeria. End of.
